Question on rear brakes.....
Question on rear brakes.....
I just replaced my rear brake pads at 31k the dealer had told me they were down to 2/32. My question is when are the rear brakes used exactly and should they have worn out before my front pads(they have plenty left I was told on the front pads)??? Anyones experience/info would be appreciated thx all.
Your rears should last you twice as long as the fronts. So, your fronts should have been changed out at least one more time before the rears.
You use the rears everytime you hit the brake pedal but because of weight distribution..blah blah...the front brakes do the majority of the braking so that is why they wear first.

VDC... Thats the reason... Some people drive very aggressively so the VDC is always kicking in, hence the reason the rear pads are gone... I can see this happening...
That's strange. I replaced my fronts at 17k, but at 24.5k still have ~6/32 left on the rear pads, even with VDC kicking in every now and then in snowy conditions. Have you owned this car from new? If not, then the fronts must have been replaced already.
It's possible you have a dragging or stuck caliper in the rear, but that seems unlikely that you would have that on both sides.

My rears on this car wear out well before the fronts. For an indication of how I drive, I got 36K miles out of my OE tires and 30K so far out of my Goodyear GS-D3's which still have about 40% tread left.
If I am driving aggressively my VDC is off, the rest of the time it rarely engages.
I think that the back brakes are undersized and overworked. The front brakes are fairly massive for the car size - backs - not so much. My last car I got over 100K out of the OE rear brakes and 40K out of each set of fronts. This car I don't get 15K per set.
