Question Which brake pads/rotors for non-track driving?

I just got a 2005 Sedan Sport 5AT with 40k miles and can feel a bit of pulsing from the brakes. I'm guessing that I'll at least be resurfacing the rotors if not replacing them altogether and might just go ahead and replace them anyway if there are significantly better rotors than the factory stock ones. I might eventually do a track day or two, but right now my plans are to only do "spirited" street/twisty driving in the G35 and reserve track days for my GSX-R 750. Anyone have advice they'd like to share on brake pads for my car and driving application? Also, should I go ahead and replace rotors with aftermarkets? The current pads and rotors look to be original. Thanks!

im running hawk hps pads and they are pretty decent. very low brake dust and doesnt squeal at all. imo the stock rotors arent that great. if you go with aftermarket pads, just get some cliff hanger drilled/slotted rotors from OCAutosports, they run about 220 shipped for all 4. the stock rotors get warped very easily and if you resurface them more than once, your braking distance will increase

Warpage is not always a rotor problem. It is sometimes friction material transfer from overheated pads.

Even with OEM rotors, the "warping" problem can be cured by different pads sometimes

It really is a mix up on what is "the best". In my opinion, OEM rotors and pads typically tend to be the best for normal street driven cars as they offer good cold stopping ability and tend to be low-dusting (except the 03-04 pads but that's another story) , but aftermarket stuff isn't always better either...especially with swiss-cheesed rotors. (i won't get into that discussion here). Unfortunately, other than OEM, your only options are the aftermarket rotors which are perfectly fine for a street driven car.

No matter what you decide to do, factor in a brake fluid bleed as well.

I'm also in need of new pads for my 05 Sedan w/30K miles. My rears are gone, fronts OK, but pulsating is driving me nuts.
Have had several advise me to get the Hawk HPS as 4DRMADNESS uses.
My local Nissan parts manager advises me to use Car Quest's ceramics.
I think the Hawks are around $150 for front/backs, so I'm going to check & see how much a set of the ceramics will run me.

I have an 05 auto coupe and had the same issue at about 38,000 miles. Rotors were warped. I installed Racing Brake inc slotted rotors with Hawk HPS pads and could not be happier!

You will save some money over OEM parts and you will have awesome brakes.
