Quick question about shims and the hardware kit

I did a quick search but didnt find too much.

I was reading through FSM and it seems they recommend replacing the brake shims with the brake job. In a few posts I read it seemed like people whom had noise were missing or the grease dried out between the shims. I have no noise and I have all shims.

So my question is, can I just clean all the parts and apply fresh grease? Or do you guys think I should buy the hardware kit. Its like $110 for the front and rear kits. Im already over my budget on this so if its not a big deal I would really like to reuse the hardware

I have a rwd sedan with 72k

I have hawk pads and stop tech rotors on the way from Riverside.

At 72 K you are very likely to need new shims, espeically if you never changed brakes. I did my fronts at 40K km and they were all rusted out-I am not sure about your winter conditions. I still reused them, but clicking noise drove me crazy and I had to take everything apart again and install new shims. I did another brake job since then and reused old hardware, it was in OK condition.

Ive only had the car since 59k and im pretty sure the previous owner was in a snowy climate too. I see what you are saying. It may be ok now but in 10k it may not be. Too bad you cant just get the shims.

You can get just the shims. It will be same $50 per front or rear set.
Do your brakes and reuse the shims. If they start making noise get new ones and put them on-this is an easy job.

Thanks obender, I actually said F it today and just ordered both kits, I hate doing stuff twice and with my luck in 15 miles it would make noise.
