Brake fluid flushes should be done yearly...2 years at most.

Brake fluid is hydroscopic so it absorbs moisture. If you live where it's humid, you may want to do it sooner than someone from a particularly dry area.

I do mine yearly and always notice an improvement in pedal feel. I usually do it after the humid summer so that i have the fall, winter and spring which are usually dry.

 

I've never changed mine on a schedule. It will help remove some of the 'spongey' feeling if you do it regularly though. I'll probably try to do it once a year on this car because I really like how the brakes feel when everything is new.

 

At 60,000, my dealer service guy says I needed a $500 brake job -- new pads and machine rotors. Would I be better off replacing/upgrading?

 

What year sedan? There are two different brake setups.

 

Am I the only one that thinks it's odd that the dealer says these cars wear out the rear pads/rotors because of more rear brake bias? Ummmm...did they not get the memo that over 70% of the braking power comes from the fronts and that more rear bias would make the car more prone to locking the brakes. These cars have brake force distribution, but that system is really only in effect under heavy braking and heavy manuvers. I replaced my rear pads at 65K miles and they still had a lot of life left and I drive pretty aggressively including auto-x.

 

Dave. The rears are really small and I think Infiniti upped the rear bias in order to get the world class braking on tiny arsed front / rear rotor diameters. That and seriously aggressive brake pads.

If someone also gets the VDC light to go on, then they are using their rear brakes then also.
