bbk set-up
All i want is the look of a bbk. Bigger roters and a better looking calipers. so my question is which bbk is best suited for me? is it the stock g37 sport brakes? or is it an aftermarket brand? im satisfied with the stopping power of the stock brakes i have now. i have an '04 w/o brembos. i'd like to get around 14" rotors or bigger. and it doesn't matter how many pots. im guessing 4 pot in the front and rear would be the cheapest way to go? thanks for any info.
my advice is to buy somehitng else if you are just in it for the looks, I'm guessing there are plenty more better places to spend the money on your car. For the price os a good BBK, you could drop the car and get new wheels.
well im running 20" rims, so i would like the rotors to not look so small. also I just dont like the way the stock calipers look, and painting them just seems like you are too cheap to by a bbk.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Don't paint your stock brakes. Based on reading what you want I would suggest the Akebono kit. CZP has the best selection that I have seen.
You're not alone. I too think the EOM rotors and calipers, while perform beautifully, look under sized and boring. Especially under the Rays. I was looking at the G37 brake kit or at minimum cross drilled rotors. Whats the difference in spening your money on brakes vs dropping the car? Both are mostly cosmetic changes anyway. If you like the look why not?
Many people says they just want a BBK for the looks, but are you really willing to sacrifice braking distance to get it if it's not the proper kit for your car? Consider carefully. Why not just get a used Brembo kit off of an 03-04? You know it's designed for your year car, and won't require significant modification (maybe the brake MC to maintain feel). Stoptech front is another great option since they size everything appropriately to maintain proper brake bias. Brake bias is very important unless you want to lengthen your stopping distances.

Sick wheels + a drop on OEM non-Brembo brakes are FAIL. I'd recommend the Akebono setup from Coz, you can powdercoat the Calipers AND get the performance that's inherently lacking with the OEM brakes... Do the $1995 kit with the Stoptech drilled/slotted rotors and you're good. BBK is a MUST. Ballers on a budget might want to find a new hobby within their price-range, those cutting corners on a build might want to downgrade their vehicle of choice to something "affordable" with affordable mods for them.

BBK isn't a must for a nicely built car. It sure is nice, but it's not a deal breaker. What exactly is lacking in the performance of the OEM brakes? Can you quantify how braking performance has increased with the Akebono setup for those owners who have swapped over? Has braking distance decreased? Or is it just more resistant to fade b/c of larger caliper mass?
Yeah, that's not awkward when you throw in names of our member's to dispute a comment. He indeed has a sick ride.
I respect everyone's opinion, I prefer a BBK. To me, the Akebono adds looks/peformance (performance comparable to the 05+ brakes).
I can't quantify how braking performance has increased with the Akebono setup for those that have swapped over, maybe those who have swapped over can tell us? I was using the Akebonos as an example.
Perhaps it is more resistant to fade b/c of larger caliper mass.
I want my wheels to complement my BBK, and vice versa. To each his/her own waijai.
