New member with the g35 blues, please help.
hello all, im new here and actually joined to learn a little more about the platform since my wife has a 03 6spd w/ brembo brakes.
Anyhow, i come from a strong background in turbo hondas and v8's..
This car is a 03 with 84k on it, and i can confidently say its the largest pile of garbage ive ever had the joy of working on.
In the course of the last 3 months, the timing sensors have all failed and been replaced, the transmission has progressively gotten worse and worse and now just plain and simple will not go into 3rd at all, the clutch makes a horrid sound when starting cold....you get the point.
The newest issue is the ABS brakes. Each time when slowing down to a stop, the abs will engauge once you are under lets say 15 or so. I assumed this may have been like most other trash on this car, where 123 lights come on in the dash and frighten the average person into going to the dealer to spend 2300 or whatever. I replaced the front brakes, assuming that the abs was seeing the pad wear and engaugeing the brakes... WRONG
no lights, no fluid issues, no incorrectly installed parts, nothing out of the ordinary i can find. Still the damn brakes work smoothly till 15 and then set off the abs. Now if it were my car and not my wifes, id just rip the fuses out of the abs, take the bulb out of the dash, sell the whole dropout to some kid with a 240 and put the extra ls1 in the garage into it and call it a day right after i put chevy ornaments on it too haha. But its not my car, and im not sure she would want something that actually needed traction control from power.
This car was purchased at some coast to coast imports place in indiana which has turned out to be a .0004 on a scale of 1-10 as far as customer service goes. It was also purchased with a bumper to bumper extended warranty for an additional 1700. May i add this warranty is just as big of a joke as the car has turned out to be. Nothing has been replaced on the car under this extended warranty. The timing sensors i checked on and this particular car was "built 3 months after the ones with the timing sensor recalls so they will not be covered" according to nissan. Like how is that possible? same issue, same pile of junk part, but its 3 months newer so its not covered? clearly nothing changed in these 3 months, still a bad part IMO. They then managed to tell us the transmission would be covered under warranty if they could replicate a grind into 3rd. Well they were not able to replicate the issue when it was diagnosed. Now the turd wont even go into 3rd at all and they tell me "synchronizers are not covered under warranty"
Sorry to rant and rave and kill everyones day ******* on this car, so ill return to my original question....Has anyone seen similar issues with the brakes like this?

The G35 was meant to replace the [I4] FWD G20 which was a basic introductory semi lux=o=sport.
It was built cheap to keep price low.
Nissan has slowly improved the weakness of new model [2003] so that today the vehicle is pretty decent for the money.
Infiniti dealers are picky about the used cars they sell, whereas the typical lots sell the problem cars, reject auction cars and repos.
Failure to hire an independent expert to evaluate any used car is just asking for it!
Follow detailed ABS diagmosis proceedure in your FSM download...........what does OBDII scanner say the codes are?

Agreed - unless you investigated the car hard before you bought it, you might have bought a reject or one that's been in an accident.
The tranny may be covered under the original powertrain warranty - take it to Infiniti to be sure.

I think you bought a Lemon or the person who had it before you never took care of the car at all, the g35 is a very good car and can last a long time if given the proper care. Hopefully you don't think all G35's have problems like this because they dont.
When you say you replaced the brakes did you just do the pads? Or pads and rotors? I think the rotors are 30mm thick and they cannot be cut under 28.8mm or something insane like that. They Must be replaced. I believe there was a class action suit against nissan for premature brake wear, nissan lost and was forced to replace brakes for free under 30k mi. Does the abs kick in with the VDC off? I had tons of brake problems (pulsating and squealing) with barely any wear on the pads. I replaced the rotors and she stopped like new. The VDC is brutal on the brakes and in bad weather can warp new rotors in minutes, keeps the ladies out of the ditch at the cost of their brakes.
If her car has 84k mi with the original clutch and throw out bearing it's time for new ones, that's just wear and tear. Mine sounded like a coffee grinder till you pushed the clutch in all the way then it went away. My mustang was an 04 with 42k and the synchros were shot. They wanted 2,400$ for a rebuild.
As far as a warranty goes, the factory warranty is the only thing worth a F. Used car warranty will only cover something that prevents your car from moving. I've learned the hard way.
I've got an 03 with 60k mi, take it to the strip almost every week an wup it's ****. No problems (except the brakes and diff bushings). All fluids changed regularly.
Oh yeah the paint is garbage
Like most Japanese cars they tend to rust in the rear wheel wells
With slightly worn tires and the VDC off I can break the tires loose in 2nd and get a little squirrely in 3rd. If your in the Chicago land area I can show you how to drive the car... Just Kidding

Modifications, wheels, tire sizes for the problematic coupe?
The crappy syncros, noisy throw-out bearings, and weak clutches are just the nature of the 6MT. It's not super unreliable, but if the previous owner was a poor or aggressive driver, that 6MT isn't going to last long.
