rust on brake rotors? anyway to get off?

You can notice the rust on my brake rotors pretty easily since i have the premium 19's. a couple people have told me that will just come away from using the breaks but i dont understand that though i drive the car often and brake how did it get their the first place if braking will always clean them/scrape the rust off? is there any thing to do just to clean it off

It's just slight surface rust from sitting in either rain or humidity... Nothing to be worried about. Just drive the car down the road, break a couple times, park and break rust gone...

Most of it will wear off immediately when you hit the brakes because the brake pads will shear it off of the portion of the rotor that they make contact with.

You can buy anodized brake rotors that will not rust if you want to, but they are expensive. It's not that big a deal really, unless you have a car that you use for shows... in which case you should probably be keeping the car in a garage anyways so it won't rust.

The most annoying thing about rusty rotors to me is that you get orange brake/rust dust on your rims when you hit the brakes the first time and shear off that thin rust layer.

I figured it wasn't on the part in contact with the pads. You could take your wheels off and take some sand paper to it

I doubt it will come off with your fingernail, but sandpaper should take it off with a bit of work. Just make sure you don't sand the actual face of the rotor as that may cause some imperfections (not sure if everyone would recommend this, but that part of the rotor isn't in contact with the pads and should be fine?)

Easy fix, with pic we now know what you're refering to....steel wool....solvent then you can finish it up with black High Temp paint. Paint in your garage and mask everything off, you don't want that paint on your cars surface. Should last a few years before it shows again....if ever

^ ah steel wool is a great idea. I totally forgot about that stuff (surprising, seeing as how I use it to clean dishes all the time)
