05 G35 Coupe

Hey guys, I'm brand new to these forums, yet have been browsing around for months. I just bought an 05 G35 coupe, with the 19" forged wheels. Athens blue, everything stock. I just put a full 20% tint on it, and now would like to lower it.

I know I could take the cheap way out and use springs, or I could spend the extra $$ and buy the coilovers and do it right...your thoughts?

I don't want to drop the car a whole lot, but I do want to drop it a noticeable amount...so that'd be what, 1"-1.5"?

Do you think I should fork over the extra $$ and do it the right way? A budget really isn't an issue, as I'd like to modify a few things with the car, just to give it a more sporty look!!

I'm no expert when it comes to cars, so bear with me as I'm not nearly as knowledgeable as you guys are!!

I've got a local mechanic thats well-known for his work, and have no problem trusting what he says...I'd just like to go into this a little more educated...any info helps!!!!

thanks!
keith

Hey man congrats onn the purchase! Beautiful color athens blue !! If you are only looking for an inch to inch and a half drop then yes springs are good for you.. Cheaper not but not in the long run. What you have to consider is if you do springs and are running on stock shocks and struts i dont see them lasting to long maybe a year at most depending on your driving or less.

Now if you buy springs then shocks/struts then your better off just getting coilovers for a little more in my opinion. Dont make the same mistake i made... I only wanted a 1" drop but i changed my mind so i grabbed coilovers now still need to throw them in. But atleast with the coilovers adjust them to the height you want then in the future if you want to go lower then do so !!

Hope that helps

so if I just go straight to the coilovers, I'll have a little breathing room if I want to go lower in the future?

also, do you think 1" is noticeable? or maybe a bit lower....I just don't want to worry about scraping at all...

I too was once in your position. Since budget isn't an issue, skip the springs and go straight for the coils. Not only are they ride height and damper (depending on model) adjustable, but you will appreciate the improved handling everytime you drive the car. I started off with springs, and the car simply felt "unsettled". Hindsight is 20/20, but I always wish I went with coils to begin with.

coils it is then!!

my next question then is which are right for me? I've always believed that you get what you buy for, and I've never bought a "crappy" brand because of that...suggestions?

i personally have HKS hypermax IIIs. I could not be happier. They are probably on the pricier side, but the handling and performance is outstanding (also, has 30 way dampening...no tools or extensions needed for adjustment). You will find that others like Stance and Function/Form because of their ability to adjust to a very low ride height.

Exactly why I have my stance lol .. U can lay the frame on the ground .. But since the OP doeisnt of course want to do that hypermax are awesome but pricey. I would look into bc coils or even tein basic's will go good.

Yes exactly you can play with the height .. 1" won't be too noticeable but a respectful drop. Atleast this way you can go over 1" to the point that works for you.

I am running H-techs and my drop isnt bad, im at work but you can look at my threads where i have then springs on. Still running OEM 19's.

I will be getting BC racing coilovers. They are really nice and not hard on the wallet for a really solid product.

^ why are you leaving it up to the mechanic? Its your car, your decision.

I would have him just quote the labor and purchase parts from vendors on this site. They usually have pretty aggressive pricing.
