Stoptech vs OEM?

My 2007 coupe is @ 40,000 miles and the brakes are making noise while stopping. I did a bit of research and found that several people prefer Stoptech Street Performance Brake Pads.

Can anyone verify if this is a good deal or should I buy elsewhere?

FRONT - STOPTECH Street Performance Brake Pads Set (part# 309.08150) - $63
REAR - STOPTECH Street Performance Brake Pads Set (part# 309.09610) - $54

Total comes out to around $117 without labor and I have a guy who might be able to do it for cheap. I would like to get some opinions on these as I have to get them fairly soon.

Thanks in advance!

If you are not tracking your car, any brake pad will get the job done. The stoptech pad offers a better bite and heat wear resistance. It will cause more wear on your rotors than an OEM pad.

Thank you, any idea how much more wear the Stoptech pads will cause vs the OEM pads?

The wear wo.t be that bad really. It's still considered a street pad. They'll put out about the same amount of dust as your own pads.

I would say try looking at the akebono pro act pads as an alternative to both.

I am pretty happy with my Stop Tech pads, but they put out a LOT more dust than my OEM ones ever did.

Get the Stoptechs. I really enjoyed them. MUCH better than OEM, but MUCH more dust. I feel the dust is worth the bite!

I have the stoptech pad on the FX, same pads up front as the G, btw. The word "bite" is a good way to describe them. I consider them more "aggressive" than oem. They're a bit noisier and more dust too.

For a bit more performance over oem, I also recommend the Akebono. I just put a set on my sister's camry.

I highly recommend the Akebono ProActs- they're decent ceramic pads and last a long time. I'm trying out Hawk Ceramic (HP PC) this time though. Slightly better bite and feel (not track pads though) but way less dust and longer lasting, but yeah get tougher rotors to hold up to the extra wear. I'm putting cryoslots on the front this weekend.

I would only ever buy semi-metallics at this point if I wanted to scrub the deposits off of my rotors before installing real pads. They're like steel wool.

I have StopTech Pads on Powerslot rotors. Great combo imo. The only thing has been in 2 instances I had to hit the brakes from 100+ to a staop and while coming to a full stop I got lots of smoke coming from my rotors. I guess they did what they do, but they got real hott doing so...
