Z1 motorsports akebOno install with brackets: PROBLEMS
Im having some issues installing the Z1 Akebono brackets and they failed to include their "master installation manual"
I've installed the CZP brackets with no instructions and no problems.
But the Z1 bracket just isn't working.
Once the rotor and caliper are bolted up, the pads sit 1/8" above the top edge ofte rotor when they should be sitting 1/16" below.
Z1 is closed til tomorrow so I can't call, wasted 3 hours of my time and money (time = money when you're a mechanic or any other profession for that matter)
So does anyone have the Z1 install manual laying around that they could photocopy for me???
I've searched here and my350z with no luck to the manual or a DIY for te Z1 kit, only the CzP

I was not given an instruction manual with my order from Z1. Do you think they may have given you the wrong bracket? When I ordered my kit they originally sent me half g35 parts and half 300zx parts...
Z1's products have always seemed sub-par to me. Their whole Z32/300zx line of products is great.
But I think they jumped in to the V35/Z33 market without much research. I had two of their clutches explode on me due to shotty workmanship. Of course they don't make their clutches, but they are made to their specs.
They either sent you the wrong bracket or the bracket just sucks.

Ended up that Z1 sent me their old steel brackets which don't fit right AT ALL. After twisting their arms, I got them to overnight me their revised Aluminum brackets.
The only reason I went with Z1 over CZP is because they make a 1 piece brackets, I don't like having more parts than necessary when doing a conversion as it's just more parts to fail.
The new brackets work well, just wasted 3-4 hours of my time with the first go at the install.

Sorry you had to deal with the hassle, but glad it all worked out. Have you had a chance to drive with the new brakes? If so, how do they feel? We all know they look damn good.
do you know if the new brackets angle the caliper differently so the brake pad covers the entire surface of the rotor? I remember seeing this setup on other G's where the brake pad did not make contact with the very inside edge of the rotor leaving a small rust ring :/
so that rust ring is more of an issue with the stoptech rotors?

The brakes feel great now that I've driven on them for the past week. Haven't done any hard stops on them but you can definitely feel the stopping potential even in daily driving compared to my stocks.
my akebonos have the rust ring where the pads dont touch the rotors! so annoying!! Gonna have to paint that...
