Another Compression Rod Thread
I really hope so. Pray for me.. haha
what else have you swapped out?
shock mounts are common, lower ball joints are becoming more common as are the bushings...
mine came from the upper Control arms (a-arms) bushings from not being pushed up high enough during install...made the torque too much under bounce/load

Now I've done LCA (inner and outer), steering knuckle ball joints, springs, shocks/struts, and lower control arm bushings (ball joint was still fairly tight)
Now here's the thing: it never did this before I did the compression rod swap to Energy's which was my latest adventure. They aren't torn (checked today) and I tightened the sub frame to spec. I dont want to assume that its something else other than something I did during the install (although its not out of the question). It just seems like too much of a coincidence that something else happened to break at the exact same time.
Does anyone know if there's a certain way to tighten the subframe back up? (I.e. tires on the ground [ramps] or off the ground [jack stands], which bolts to tighten first to get even pressure, etc.)
The clunk is from the front passenger side and happens over small bumps at low speeds (uneven road) or when I brake at slow speeds. Sounds like a loud crack when I turn and kind of like someone lightly hits it with a hammer underneath on uneven roads. And kind of a click that I can feel thru my gas pedal when I brake.

Check your steering rack gear adjustment, it's the big nut on the rack facing towards the rear of the car...jack up car (on stands not inclines) turn the steering wheel off center left or right and then tighten the big nut DO NOT FORCE IT tight, when it gets tight you will notice tighter steering and less clunking from front
The front suspension isn't complex so if you guys replaced everything you are probably just **** like me and think everything is broken when you heard a noise....honestly they will not stop with g35s

Well, I wasn't replacing all that stuff to fix it. That stuff was all being replaced in the name of modding but after I did the CR bushings I got a clunk.
Haven't checked outer tie rods, but I guess that's next along with sway bar endlinks and strut mount.

very well could be the shock mounts - if you have the stock shock mounts and just put those back on they can cause clunking noise
also, very common is the sway bar end link as well

I have this problem too.. and after much research I went with the single piece CR bushing from armstrong bushings ( have yet to install). What I did notice from the clunking at driver side is that when I adjusted the tie rod to push the driver wheel toe in... the clunking went away. Odd but steering wheel alignment was off and turned it back to original location; notice the clunking came back. I have a hunch that alignment has something to do with the clunking noise?
Also I'm looking into this new company that makes hard rubber bushings. I heard way too many pros and cons to go with polyurethane route. I'll update my progress on the install and outcome once done.
