True Or False?
True Or False?
Somebody told me if i get just springs for example (Espelir GT springs) that it would damage my car in the long run and if i wanted to drop it withought damageing the car i would have to get a complete drop system like springs shocks and so on, is this true? and by just getting the Espelir GT springs will that damage the stock shocks or the car in ANY way.
ps. i have a 04 G35 coupe with the 18 inch wheel package.

TRUE!
Don't screw up your car!
Suspension is a system, a system that has been engineered and designed to work a specific way under a wide variety of conditions, if you just go jacking a set of springs in your car you are going to upset the balence of the tires working with the springs that work with the shocks/ struts/ anti-sway bars. If you want it lower and all you want to do is shorten the springs, you might just as well go ahead and cut the existing springs to adjust the ride height. There are several coil over packages that will fit in line with the tuned suspension.

The only springs you can use (safely) w/ your stock suspension are 03'/early 04' OE 350Z springs. They will not put any additional stress on your stock shocks and will most likely avoid the need for camber/toe adjustment kits. Alignment should be within spec.
The result is 1/2" drop all the way around.
Any other springs may have some side effects such as premature failure of OE shocks, excessive snd unbalanced tire wear......
Depending on the springs you chose, the negative side effects may be more or less severe.
Generally, the lower you go, the more you have to pay!

LOL, some of you guys are giving some bad info. OEM 350Z springs are almost as aggressive as my S-Techs, which are 386 front and 402 rear. Spring rate and height determines what you need in addition to springs. Yes, you will wear out the OEM shocks, but they're crappy anyway. For instance, I have Tein S-Techs for the 350Z. It gave me a 1" drop all around and the rates are much more aggressive than the stock rates. Therefore, after 10 months the stock shocks wore out. Now I'm running Tokico D-specs, which are way better than stock, about $500, and allow me to adjust dampener rebound and compression infinitely. Too short of a spring will also throw off your camber and maybe toe, which can be fixed with camber bolts and arms. A full coilover would prevent most of this, but is a very expensive alternative. However, you can build a great suspension piece by piece over a long period of time without messing up your car. I recommend this order: springs, then camber arms or bolts if necessary, then shocks when and if OEM wears out, then sways to fine tune. This can be done over a period of 18 months without messing up the car and great if cash is a problem.

Read what I wrote "03' & early 04' springs", they have the exact same spring rates as the 03' & 04' coupes.
My post was accurate FYI!

the tein basic set up IMHO is the ticket if you don't want to spend tons of money, I believe my set with SPC toebolts and camber arms was around 1K. Do yourself a favor and do it right! Kenchan is the suspension guru, he has done tons of research. Unfortunately, there is NO CHEAP WAY TO DO IT if you do it right. You can drop the car with just the springs BUT your overall handling will be off not to mention the tire wear issues. good luck.

I use to work for Exact Motor Sport and we specialize in suspensions we get all type of pro scca cars, street cars, and 300Zx Clubs.
By lowering your car with just spring will shorten the life of ur stock shocks and struts, but a stock shocks life with a mild spring should last a good life of at list 2 years.
The main reason stock shocks go out is beacuz they dont have enough shock travel and they bottom out.
If you just gona use ur car as a daily driver and just want to look good with a bit of handling I would go for a entry lvl spring and a adjustable shocks or struts.
Camber kit is also a option specially if u you want to save money on tires, but try to get a alignment first so you know where you stand in camber.
This set up is good for the street and some mountain carving.
I have a 05Cp with Tein S 1.2f and .9R it handels great and the ride is not far from stock comfort. Im still using the stock shocks cuz they are pretty stiff already and it cn handel what i dish to it so far.

Actually, your post wasn't exactly totally true. OE 350Z springs no matter what year will eventually wear out the G35 shocks. Yes, they may share the same spring rates, but the dampeners are different. It's not the spring rate you should worry about, it's the spring height. The 350Z dampeners are shorter and valved differently to accomodate the shorter springs. Coupes and Sedans have the same shocks, but different springs. Using the 350Z springs on OEM G35 dampeners will not allow it to travel fully, which will lead to premature wear and improper rebound/compression distance and affect ride quality. This is what happened to me. It's wasn't so much the increased spring rates that did my shocks in, but the shortened stroke from the springs.
i had H tech (the least drop you can get) for about 2 months now and the oem shocks are still ok. tires are not tho. and rebound of the car is not so good. i am planning on getting shocks asap!!! i really recommend getting spring+shock package and save money when you can. (my g looks very good with the drop, but i had to drive super careful all the time. any street with pot holes become an obstacle course.)

This is basically how I am gonna do it. I have Tein S Tech springs which I had installed about 3 months ago. So far tires and shocks are both good. Once the shocks go I'm taking the route that Deang35c6 suggested to slowly build up my suspension.
FALSE on certain conditions.
If the springs drop the car a very small amount say less then 1in. then for you to damage shocks will take a while. While could be about 4yrs.
I know people who used stock shocks with aftermarket springs for number of years and never had problems. Obviously this goes for small drop.
If your springs drop the car more then 1.5 in then shocks would wear out faster, but it will still take time.
A shock blow out can result even when using stock suspension and would invole hitting a big enough pot hole.
As far as damaging the car, it all depends on how you drive. Lowered cars are more prone to bottoming out and scraping on driveways. But that all depends on how you drive.
Shocks normally designed to work with you suspension and even with full load on the car they can still hold out a long time. Say if you drove with stuff in your trunk and 3 people all the time it will still take a while for a shock to fail.
