New Install HKS RS Coils and Stoptech BBk -- The Review
I just had my HKS RS coilovers and Stoptech BBK 14in installed.
They have been on the car for about three days.
Before installing the RS coilovers, I had eibach prokit springs with factory struts. The springs provided for a subtle lowering and had good handling. However, I intend to Auto-X this car and wanted an adjustable suspension. After investigating my options and finding that I could not get the Tanabe electronic coilovers until after January, I went with the RS.
I have no regrets. The ride is much firmer and my car really handles on the curves. Combined with my hotchkis sways, the G feels like it is on rails. (This is even before I get the thing re-aligned.) I have the coilovers set on soft and I actually increased the height over the Eibachs because my APS ST down pipe kept scrapping over spead bumps. The RS's are awesome and I can't wait to bring out to the track to see the full potential. I was hoping that the RSs would get rid of the body squeaks which I attributed to the factory struts. Will see if it does.
As for the Stoptech Kit, it too was a good investment. You simply cannot compare the stock brakes to the stoptech kit -- my semi stock brakes (I had slotted and drilled rotors) constantly made noises when I braked and the stopping power, especially at high speeds was not compliant. The stoptech kit allows you to stop on a dime and makes no noises.
The only problem with the Stoptech kit is that I have to use wheel spacers on the rear rotors. That in turn has caused my wheels to rub on the fender. I rectified that problem this morning when the good guys at Auto Explosion saved the fenders. (They are awesome -- went in without an appointment; they dropped everything, shaved the fenders in less than 30 minutes; and charged me next to nothing. They also do great body and paint work.)
This morning I was cruising at over a 110 mph, no rattles or shaking; the car felt like it was on rails. If I had more sack, I probably could have ran it harder.
In any event, thumbs up to the HKS RS Coilovers and Stoptech brakes.
Also I wanted to thank Brainstorm Performance for installing the modifications, and Coz for giving me a good dealin on the brakes.
