is there a break in period for breaks?
hi i just got the hawk hps break pads installed front and rear im not sure if its just me but the bite is not better than oem and it feels harder to come to a complete stop. is there a break in period for breaks like there is for cars? thanks in advance
first off hawk pads are known for not being daily driver friendly. in order to break in ur brakes u have to do something called brake bedding. im not exactly sure what the process is but i think u drive at a speed of 50-60 mph and then slam the brakes to slow down to 10mph and speed right back up to 60mph and proceed to do this over maybe ten times. do a search for brake bedding for more info
The Hawk pads come with directions on how to break them in
My old pads are in the box, which is in the garage, which is outside, and I am too lazy to get the directions tonite. I'll try to remember to get em tomorrow.

WELL of course, why would you expect anything else from aftermarket compounds not optimized to match a particular system. Aftermarkets don't vary the compound to fit particular cars other than their design reference car/test machine.
If you don't bed in properly it can take 250-500 miles for a spotty uneven friction transfer to rotor.
You must true or replace rotors to remove the old oem transfer film or you will get a mixture of the two compounds for some time period.
Watch out for cold panic stops until the pads are bedded in and until you get use to different leg forces required.........luckily ABS will save you at some increase in braking distances. Don't follow too close.
