Broken Ball-Joint on Control Arm???
Hey just wanted to find out if anyone has ever heard of this. I've been driving my '03 G35 for about a year with the front suspension making a clicking noise while driving. I finally got tired of it and decided to take it to Infiniti to get it looked at. I thought that it may have been that the two bolts that bolt to the frame were tightend too tight. But when I got the car back the adviser said that the ball-joint was broken.
I don't know much about cars but if this was broken I would not be able to drive my car right?
Could it be a scam to make me buy new control arms?

not too sure of this myself but do you have the car back?
you can check the quality of the ball joint boots, both upper and lower by turning the wheel/crawling around under the car. If both boots on both sides (make that 3 boots if there's a tie rod end ball joint) are ok, then i am inclined to say they are trying to take you for your $.
A lot of things can cause clicking. on my old car, a bad axle caused it, and it showed with the boot ripping shortly after and splattering grease all over the underside of the car.
If anything get a 2nd opinion, without mentioning "check the ball joints", just say there's a click in the front.
Ball joints don't magically break that easily unless you have modified your car by lowering/related or you have extremely terrible roads you drive over everyday.

Someone suggested that the ball-joint may have to be taken apart and grease be added... does that make any sense? Could that cause clicking? It makes sense to me but just not sure if that will fix it (that's what the mechanic said) and will cost $$$. Has this happened to anyone either with factory or aftermarket control arms???
