out of state buyer - tax

I am a Maryland (5% tax) resident looking to buy a G35 in Virginia (3% car tax)...what tax will I be paying when I am at the dealer? Thanks.

You pay car sales tax based on the state where you register the car in. In your case, you'll be hit with 5% MD car sales tax. If you were a resident of VA but purchased your car in MD, you would only pay 3% VA new car sales tax. The downside for VA folks is they pay property taxes on their cars I believe every 2 years. In the long run, I personally think it's better to live in MD and pay that 2% upfront.
