resale value rant

So searching the threads on the forum Ive seen a lot of people complaining about how the resale value on the G sucks. I find that hard to believe!

I mean Im looking on Autotrader and what do I see? 03's with 40, 50, even 60k+ miles where dealers are asking $20k for sedans and $24k for coupes. GTFO!
I dont see how an 03, a car that is 3 years old with 50k miles can sell for $6k less than a brand spanking new 06 with less than 8k miles. Whats up with that??

I see people wanting $22k, 24K for their 03 sedans as well, IMO that's pretty high. I dont think this car holds it value as well as say an M5 or M3 or something, or does it?

whats really going on with these high prices?

'07's off the dealer lot are brand spanking new. '06s with 8k on them are used cars. That's where most depreciation takes place- first year.

Most cars lose value drastically within the first 2 years after that it becomes a lot more steady. Here is an example:

- I bought my car in 05 and it is an 03 model. I got it for exactly 10K less than what the first owner bought it for. So they lost 10K for 2 years.

- Now that it is about 1.5 years later i can resell the car for about 2 to 3K less than what i bought so I honestly do believe that our cars are holding their value pretty well just not within the first year or two.

if G owners feel bad be happy you have a G b/c it has the best resale value of any car out there. look at the 745 BMW's.... 80k bucks and in 2 years it's worth $35 how would you feel on that

I sold my '04 6mt coupe, purchased in 5/04 (MSRP was just over $35K). I sold it in 5/06 for $27,400. It had 27K miles on it and lots of stuff was going south (seat rock, pull to the right, front tire feathering, power windows were on their last legs, rattles galore, tranny grind, etc.)

I think the resale is actually quite good, considering...

The resale value of the G35 sedan has taken about a $3000 decrease in the last 3 months. Some of this is due to the 07 release. However, in my case my 05 is almost worth less than my residual and I have about 19 months left on my lease. The G35 sedan is not holding its value well at all right now. The G35 coupe might follow suite later this year when the 08 comes out.
