Returning/exchanging a lease

My 06' G Sedan was rear-ended and although it's at a very reputable shop, I'm afraid it will never be the same again. I'm currently on a 42 month lease and have had the car for about 13 months now. A few people told me that I can take it back to Infiniti and get another car but I'm not quite sure how that works. Can anyone please explain?
I've put a $5,500 down payment on it and to the best of my understanding, all will be lost?
Thanks in advance.

Its same as trading in a “financed” car at this point, you will be paying any difference between what they offer you for your trade and what you still owe on your car, call up your leasing company and ask them what is your payoff amount and see what dealership will offer you for your trade and you can judge from that how much you will lose…You don’t automatically lose all your down payment.
