High-mileage values
High-mileage values
Hi all,
I've been looking to secure another G35 for some time now. I bought my 04' 6MT new and loved it, but had to trade it for a Titan to meet some needs at the time. I am now in a position to swap back, so have been shopping.
My question is about pricing high-mileage Gs. One of the front-runners I've been looking at has 87,000 miles on it. I did punch it into Edmunds True Market Value tool and got a price, but I doubt that the algorithm includes an adjustment for the current economy. I want to be fair to the seller, but - of course - I'm looking for a good deal also. I know what the dealers are doing - they are using the Edmunds tool and inputting cars as "average" condition then using that trade-in value. That's what they did for me when they valued my trade-in, which took $2,000 off of the price as-compared to "good" condition.
The particular G I'm referring to is a 2005 6MT with 67,000 miles. The interior is clean. The exterior has a few scuffs and a lot of speckle on the front bumper from a long daily commute. The body is straight and free of dents though. All 4 wheels are scuffed. It was dealer-maintained, so they went the cheap route on the brake job and did not turn the rotors. All 4 rotors need to be turned and new pads installed. It needs new rear tires (fronts are new PS2s), and the clutch is at the top of the adjustment, so that is a near-term item as well as the 90k service. Edmunds private party AVERAGE condition value is $14.6k after the mileage, options, and condition adjustment. The same car as clean condition is $16.7k.
Thoughts on fair value given the near-term maintenance? The car drove straight and the engine was strong.
