To "X" or not to "X"

I am a newbe here and am looking to upgrad from my Maxima to a G35 Sedan. I have been looking at a number of 05-06 models with and without AWD.

Questions are; Does the AWD add alot of potential reliability issues? Any major problems with the system? Does it affect the performance? I have had AWD in some SUVs and it was garbage. How are the "X"s? Please give me real feedback from owners.
Also, Can you turn it off if ...say, you wanted to smoke the tires?

Thanks for any help, I want to make a purchase in the next two weeks.

stock for stock i haven't had any issues period with the AWD. You need to do the fluid services but other then that i dont think they cost anymore then a RWD.

Now when i wanted to do mods the AWD system does come into play.

You cant not turn off the AWD and make the wheels smoke...

Pull the 10amp fuse by ur left foot. U become rwd, and u can smoke tires or drift around poles. If thats what u want to do

only mod on the X thats tricky is the exhaust, and im still running a RWD borla td exhaust custom fitted on the X. If u really want it u can get it done. rest of the engine we all know same bolt ons.

Uprev osiris dyno tune for 05x...

what really matters is, Do u need the AWD. do u live where it snows often, or u live in like Florida? lol If u dont need Awd, stick with RWD...

Do you plan on doing any suspension modding? There are not many options for the X especially for the V35s. Some members are working on getting sways made but other than that, it seems only front and rear strut bars will fit.

For the V36, they have front & rear strut bars, sways, 6 pt chassis brace and a few other upgrades.

I have the X but personally I regret it a little bit just because I think RWD would be more fun but in a few weeks on snow tires, I'm sure I'll be a bit happier.

you got a video of anyone doing that?

yea you can pull the fuse but the AWD still activates to some degree. One member read a statement similiar to what you stated and put their AWD on a 2 wheel dyno and it didn't work.... lucky no accident.

I pulled the fuse at the 1/4 mile track to see if i can spin or if it made a difference and it did not. Times were all within .xx seconds of each other which was completely normal.

I haven't pulled my fuse in a long time, but pulled my friends fuse from 05x about 2 weeks ago. Hes bolt on and he laid about 5-6feet of rubber from dig, and went around fish tailing.

When u pull the fuse, car starts on awd, but from what I know its an electronic clutch, so put it in D and start driving before a few feet, you'll see the AWD light come on and stay solid, when it requests the fronts to engage.

Or put it in drive Brake/ Gas to stand still and as soon as it starts spinnin the rear it throws off the awd.

You're right I've heard of people trying to dyno on RWD dyno, but it still sends like 5% or less to the front wheels, barely anypower, but still spins them.

I really dont think it makes any difference speed wise awd or rwd. I personally like power braking and launchin from dig alot better then RWD take off.

I've pulled fuse and drifted around on my 17s when I needed new tires, and smoke them to wires.

Since even on my staggered 370z rims, wheel/tire dimensions are almost perfect match, so my awd is fine.

Only time my AWD turned itself off was on staggered 19 rays. with 225/40/19x8 245/40/19x8.5 Front tires looked stretched and sidewall was decreased alot compared to rear after driving on the hwy speeds about 40+ for a few seconds, AWD would start blinking and turn itself off, to not to any damage.

X helps a lot if you live with snow, but you can do just fine with RWD and a good set of snow tires.
