Just bought a 2006 G35 Coupe

Hey everyone,

Ive been lurking for a while just soaking up the information...

Anyways, yesterday I took delivery of an 06 G35 Coupe. The story goes I went to test drive a 350Z roadster and they got the price right where I wanted it. Up to that point, I had never driven a G35 coupe or sedan, so I checked Autotrader to find one nearby, just for the sake of knowing. It turns out that my old neighbor works at a dealership that had just taken one in on trade. It hadn't been through detail or service but the car was immaculate! Just some slight curb rash on two wheels, and drove perfect. I think I fell in love. Since it was a Saturday and service was closed, he took my information and told me he would call Monday to let me know if there were any issues with it..

After the longest Sunday of my life, he called and said the only problems was they had to replace a tire because one had a nail in it (they dont do plugs) and they repaired the curb rash on the wheels.

So now I am the proud owner of a 2006 G35 Coupe with 42k miles on it. Its going to be a relatively slow build, as I have a 2000 Q45 that is undergoing a VIP build.. So for the G the major projects are intake, exhaust, led/hid upgrade, tint, system.

..And Ive already ordered the LEDs

Here are some phone pics until I can get a more proper shoot done.

Looks good. Consider changing spark plugs, air filter, and oil to synthetic.

Im thinking about a CAI by Christmas so that should be good.. What's the real benefits of synthetic over conventional?

Congradulations, the car looks great...

side note i find it hilarious there's what appears to be a used Chevy Volt on a BMW Car Dealer lot... Apparently someone didn't want to be green.

Oil is the blood of the engine. I've found Synthetic to be much smoother and resistant to breakdown.

I can understand that. Ive worked in dealerships for 8 years (Cadillac/GM etc) and been around Nissan/Infiniti for the last 3 and I havent seen a drastic difference between the two maintenance-wise.. I feel like synthetic seems to hold up better for people that are racing them but I still cant find a definitive answer.

I usually do my oil changes every 4-6k miles if that helps..? I know the rule about 3k is out but for the price of an oil change, I would rather change too often than too little.

The rule of 3k is real...about 10 years ago VW claimed their car could go 10k between oil changes. In the recent years 3750-7500 "rules" have come out. To each their own. I find it to be common sense. If you change your own oil then you know when its dirty, and if you know the properties of oil then you know that it doesn't have to look dirty for the integrity of the current oil to be broken down.

Thanks, Im leaning towards going synthetic but still doing my research

Btw, I just ordered all my HID/LEDs, does anyone have a link to how to remove the headlights and grille? On my 04 Maxima I remember I had to remove the bumper...
