Carfax in this situation would tell potentially when it was issued a rebuilt title.
I'll agree they don't report 100% of the history but major events like that would be.

Have you gone to look at the car yet??

I'll join the chorus and say avoid anything salvage/rebuilt unless it's CHEAP. Like 40% off cheap.

Keep in mind that if it's been hit hard enough to total it, it likely had structural damage. It may wear tires unevenly or if it's been flooded, you are almost guaranteed to have electrical issues down the road. With the amount of electronics on this car, that's not a good thing.
