Looking at buying a 2006 g35 sedan

Hi all -

I am interested in buying this car: (not an advertisement or anything like that)

2006 G35 Sedan

I have never had a g35, but have driven this one above and also a g35x and really enjoyed driving both. I am certain a g35 will be my next car as I have driven a couple of BMW 3 and 5 series and like what the Infiniti has to offer over them. But is this the right car?

I have driven this car a couple of times and it runs so well, but the ‘!’ light is on and when coming off the freeway it filled the cabin with a burnt smell (I am guessing burnt oil). I told the dealer these two things have to be fixed before I even consider moving on to the next step. They supposedly have it up and it’s getting worked on right now. Even after that, I will still have another mechanic do an inspection.

Does this car seem like a good deal, or do you think I am barking up the wrong tree? Any advice, suggestions is greatly appreciated.

I am not in a rush and do not want to get myself into a bad deal. I currently have a ’06 Mazda 6 as a daily driver with 78k and no problems. I just want something with more power and fun to take me to work every day while still being able to put my kids in the back seat if need be.

Thanks in advance!

Im not sure what that smell could be, is it a sweet like smell? That could be coolant. Regardless, having a mechanic other than the dealership look at it is the best option. And the only light with an "!" in it (i believe) is the low tire light (up above the gas gauge).

And that price is pretty good, it just broke 100k which is nothing for our cars. I would find out what that smell is and post on here. That burning smell could also be a valve cover gasket leaking a slight bit. I dnt think its too much to worry about.

Hey Adrian, thanks so much for the advice. I think that light is on the left side of the cluster (not sure if that helps). I assumed it was a check engine light, obviously I should have looked in the owner's manual.
That dealer has had the car for months and dropped the price from $16,900 to $14,900, now to $11,900.
As far as the type of smell, I wish I knew a little more. It wasn't a sweet smell, I don't think it was coolant.

Yeah that is the low tire light. No need to worry about that (unless a tire is actually low, but mine comes on and none of my tires are low). Our check engine light is the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light lol.

Let me know what the verdict is when you figure it out. I am very interested into seeing what that smell is.

I got a call back from the dealer, they said it is a couple of gasket seals that are going to be replaced but will take a few days to get them ordered and replaced. Making progress!
