Considering first G35 - advice requested

Hey all,

I apologize if this should go somewhere else in the forum but this is my first post here and I need some advice. I've come across what I believe to be a solid deal on a 2006 G35 with very low miles (just under 41K). Here are the basics:

2006 G5 Sedan - Black 6MT
Only 40,800 original miles
18" stock 5 spoke wheels
Tires around 75% tread (Good)
Tan leather seats, Bose system, sunroof, everything in interior looks basically like new
1 previous owner

Overall I'd say exterior is about an 8.5/10 and interior is probably 10/10. Very clean.

I'm looking at $14,800 + dealer / taxes that bring it to around $15,900. I've seen people get 2003s with 100K+ miles for under $8K so I'm curious as to whether or not you G35 owners think this is a fair deal. The NADA/KBB value is around $17,700 retail and I can't find any better deals in the area so maybe I've answered my own question here but I value experienced owners' opinions!

I'm coming from a Mazda RX-8 and am really only switching to avoid possible upcoming issues with the rotary and to get slightly better MPG but I will miss the handling. Fortunately, the G35's awesome engine makes up for it.

Sorry for the long post, please advise!

Kevin

2005-2006 6mt sedan vehicles have rev-up series of the vq35de engine. This specific engine has issues with pistons rings and valve guide seals which ends up causing oil consumption around 1qt every 1500-2000 miles or worse. I would get some vehicle history from infiniti using the vin to see what has been done and if oil consumption ever was brought up. The price of the vehicle can be slightly better around $13500 + TTL and make sure no crazy bogus fees are tacked on from dealer. Make sure to do a pre purchase inspection with infiniti, and run both autocheck and carfax on the vehicle.

Hi Faiz,

Thanks for the input. Per your advice, I did some investigation with Infiniti and found the dealer that provided me with an entire service history since it was new all the way through 2 months ago when the original owner traded it in. The ONLY mention of low oil was after the first change at 5,700 miles and the customer was overdue by 2K and it was only "slightly" low. Other than that it appears to be all clear and the former owner brought it in religiously for regular maintenance.

I also checked the carfax and it's clean. I think I'm going to pull the trigger. I can't find any G35s within a few hundred miles that are in the ball park of this deal. I certainly don't think I could find one with 41K miles for $13.5K!
