G35 is by no mean a perfect car. There are issues just like with any other car.
However is it the most reliable car out of all "sexy" cars on the road.
If you take care of it, it will take care of you, just like any other car.
I bought mine in 05 and it runs just as good as it did the first day.
Sure I got some common issues (CD not working, door locks stopped working, power seat stopped working) but those are minor things and are fixable, i'm just too lazy to do it.
As far as engine and transmission, those are very reliable. VQ is one of the best engines made by Nissan (if you go with the right one). Mine has over 140k and I get better gas millage then it did on day 1, and no oil consumption.
When it comes to buying used G35. You got to make your decision based on the previous owner. If it was owned by someone with a led foot, you might wanna stay away from it, especially if car was not taken care of. Find one owned by middle aged woman or older lady and you'll be happy with your purchase.

I love my 06 and it has treated me good. If I had to get another car tomorrow tho, it would be a Lexus.

I bought my 03 G coupe in 2009 with 30,000 miles. Since then, I have had NO problems with the car outside of regular maintenance. The car now has nearly 120k and it is still rock solid. It has its quirks, but overall it has been stellar. Maintenance wise, the biggest bill the car has cost me has been brake rotors and pads. Since I DIY everything on the car, I do not pay very much for replacement parts. Only things outside of basic maintenance has been Lower Control arm/Compression Rod bushings and front lower ball joints which all tore prematurely due to lowering the car. I would buy another Infiniti again in a heartbeat. This car has been solid, and in all honesty.. I drive it like I stole it on a regular basis.

This is my personal experience. But overall, I am very thorough with the maintenance of my car. Like said before, she will take care of you if you take care of her. Buddiee, sorry to hear about your misfortunes.

You really are only going to get one point of view here. The only people left here are people who still have their G. Most all the people that have had issues like me, sold their car and moved on. You will see very very few people like me who have early join dates.

Joker is right. Not all are bad. The VQ35DE was praised for reliability. It was never the engine I had issues with on my cars, it was everything else.

The reasons for 3.
Bought 04 G35 right after they came out (end of 04), loved having one of the few on the streets an no one knowing what it was. I was so in love with the looks and uniqueness, that I ignored all the quality issues. About two years after an illegal mexican ran a red light and totaled my car.

Decided to buy another one (bought a used 04), I figured maybe I just got a bad car first time and 2nd one cant have as many issues as first. It was twice as bad. After a year I had to get rid of it.

G37s just came out, so I figured maybe a new platform will be better so bought a 08 G37. Dead wrong again. In a year I was at the dealer 18 times. After the final time, I said F*ck it, drove to a Jeep dealership and took a 8k hit just to be rid of it.

Yes all 3 of my cars were under warranty and I spent an absurd amount of time at dealers over the years. I know how many problems I had with new Infinitis, it scares the sh*t out of me to think about buying a used one without warranty. My dead honest opinion is to stay away, look at a Lexus IS instead or a Hyundai genesis if you want a coupe. If you do get one, I wish you the best of luck with it.

I own a 1st gen sedan and the only complaint I have is that the car bores me to death because I literally have had nothing go wrong outside of routine maintenance items in almost 10 years.

I actually find myself looking forward to oil, cabin and air filter changes.

Consumer's Guide tends to follow my experience as well, which is why the G is one of the highest rated performance sedans on the market with regards to reliability (on par with Lexus).

Sucks that you have had such a bad string of luck with the brand, but I don't think it's representative of the entire Infiniti community.

I have two G's now, an auto and a 6 speed. I have had a few problems over the years but nothing terrible especially if you are even remotely mechanically inclined. Sure I had a thermostat mess up but that took all of like 30 bucks and 5 minutes to fix. Other little issues like that happen occasionally but the same could be said about any other car. You will get some like my Silverado with 300k miles that's been in the shop once and it was for a glowplug, or you will see bmw's that throw codes every other hour. All in all I love the G, otherwise I wouldn't have bought a second one. Make sure you check the car out though or have someone who knows what they are doing take a look at it. The price is decent for the miles but how is the condition of the exterior/interior. If it needs a lot of work you should probably just find a different one. Miles can be fixed, (not the odometer but an engine rebuild and your engine will be solid for a long time after).

I've still got mine. Had it a while.

123,000 miles on it and I've only spent under $1K on non-maintainence repairs. That was for wheel bearings, new battery and an exhaust leak. Other than that, just routine maintaince and upkeep. Never been stranded (knock on wood) and still rides like the day I bought it 5-6 years ago. As it stands right now, the only thing wrong with the car is the cat converter heat shields keep rattling. Minor issue really.

Other than that, this car has been one of the most reliable I've owned. I want to trade it in for a G37x, but at the same time, i like owning a paid-for car that I know all the maintainence has been done and i'm very familiar with it's overall running condition. I have no problem hoping in the car and driving it 100+ miles for work to visit a vendor/customer.

Only reason I'd look to trade it in now is to get something nice and shiny and new(er)....but i also like being debt-free
