Salvage Title

I'm considering selling my 5AT in order to buy a 6MT, however, my car has a salvage title. Mechanically and aesthetically speaking the car is in good condition. It has some paint chips on the hood and some dents, dings, and scratches that you would expect it to have being a 2003. With 121,000 miles on it and a salvage title, what can I expect to get for it?

Take normal and take Away 20% is what I've noticed. Check around the local Craigslist.

I bought a 04 with 112k 5AT salvage. The car is in outstanding condition i paid 7k. i think i got it at a fair price, G's are expensive here in California. A clean title goes for 9k+. Apparently no frame damage to the car so i bought it. I wouldn't buy a car that has frame damage.

Mine was just flood damage. No frame damage. I paid 13 something for mine in 2010. Overpriced, but where I was in Illinois I had never even seen one before.

That it's correct. It was the first one I had ever seen.

Most people associate salvage with a good deal...no matter what the reason was. Having a Salvage title is like the scarlet letter of the automobile world. People buy them due to being a good deal. but when comes time to sell, usually take a beating.

I've seen cars salvages because the interior was vandalized and insurance totalled it on full cost of new leather vs a junkyard resto. Still, even if 100% back to original condition, people will want that 20% cut off normal retail

I would steer clear unless I knew the previous owner and was aware of the damage before hand. You never know what kind of problem will arise after purchased with salvage. Some shop may have hacked it together for a quick sale. And as stated above the resale will be a nightmare. Beware before you shell out the cash.

Absoulutely agree here, there are a lot of different reasons are car can be salvaged, just do your homework before you hop into a salvage car.
