Is this a good deal? 2007 G35

Hey, guys. Looking into purchasing my first G35 after my BMW engine went out earlier this year. I live in Houston but will be working out of state this weekend and found a really clean '07 model with 115k miles on it that I'm really interested in buying and driving back. It's the cleanest interior I've found and it seems as if the maintenance has been kept up pretty well. The current owner has all of the receipts, etc. for the work down. Everything is stock on it besides a straight exhaust mod and the intake. He has it listed for 7500 and I have him set at 6800 cash. After agreeing on the 6800 I noticed something in the images with the hood and he sent over closer shots.. its a little dented and definitely needs some new paint. I consider that a little extra negotiating leverage. Here's the Facebook description and photos. What's a good price to offer? Is this a good deal? Any info at all would be greatly appreciated. Really excited to get one of these and start building her up from scratch. Thank you !

FB Description:
"Hello I have a very smooth 2007 Infiniti g35 up for sale the car has low miles clean title imported from California Replacements: Water pump Thermostat Cooling fans Brand new intake I have the Stock cover for engine This car has a brand new set of tires to go with but the tires on the car now should last you for anther good half year , Pioneer system JBL 12’s in the trunk No rips and tears on leather interior High maintenance kept on vehicle All fluids Refilled (antifreeze, oil, etc) For all these replacement receipts can be provided Just recently ordered a new wireless key fob Recent interior detailing Also have floor mats for front and back seats Serious buyers only"

Something is definitely up with that left side hood latch, honestly I think it's priced a high for a 5AT but that might be just the going price in your area.

You could probably find one with less ****ery going on if you keep looking. Whoever did the badge removal on the trunk should be fired immediately...

Get better pics of that right front wheel, looks like there are CHUNKS missing out of it.

Someone backed into something and spidered out the paint badly on that rear bumper, fortunately there's not much behind it they can damage if it didn't get into the trunk metal, look under it for hidden damage.

That one looks a lot closer to the price I would expect to pay for a 5AT though.

Also, either the tires are super SUPER bald or the outside edge of those front tires are worn completely off. Might check the wear to see if there are some serious alignment issues going on and definitely test drive to see how it handles.

Asking him for pics now.. may just drive down and check it out tonight or in the morning if possible.

Noted. I'll be sure to check it. If it looks promising I'll have a mechanic look at it before hand as well.

Really appreciate your input bro. I'm trying to be patient and not too emotional or excited about making a purchase so I can get the best deal possible. I'm itching though! haha

Looks like it also has the typical driver seat tear. Carefully cropped out of the driver side interior photo, but you can see it in the passenger side pic.

Can't believe I'm actually considering this now.. but maybe a manual transmission should be an option for me? I've never driven a MT in traffic so it's a little scary to think of. But I found two locally..

this one is red.. thats a commitment id have to think about. Has mods. 97k v 125k . the silver is more timeless, lowkey, less moded, and cleaner interior.

"6 speed (new clutch about 1000 miles ago) 97k miles Sport rays God speed coil over AAM Competition test pipes (straight pipe from there back) Halo headlights Interior black: flawless except for window regulator which needs to be fixed There is not a single leak on this car or issue with it I’m getting it from the mechanic today jan 20,2021 miles will go up as it is my daily"

"Clean title MANUAL TRANSMISSION Very well maintained and taken care of Sunroof Xenon Headlights Leather Seats Heated and Memory Seats Premium wheels One of the cleanest G35s I’ve ever come across Cruise control Electric seat Everything's perfect Has all original equipment Cold AC No problems no issues"

The laser red has probably been beat on.

As the owner of a Lakeshore Slate, I'm partial to the second one :-)

Unsure if that one has the OEM headlights. Anything aftermarket is not as good as the OEM projectors.

I have a 5AT so have no experience with the 6MT, but from reading here, my understanding is that it is not as easy to master as say, a Honda.

Mileage and price on second?

Red - 2005 - 97K .. asking 6250

Silver/Grey - 2007 - 125K .. asking 6800

I feel like if I'm gonna do it I can't let the transmission learning curve intimidate me.. thousands of others are doing it.. I'm sure I could get it haha

The silver one definitely, also it looks like an '06 or '07 which means you get the really nice projector HID lights and bluetooth hands free calling built into the stereo. And being a 6MT it will have the sport package which includes the better sway bar, the VLSD differential, rev-up motor can be a double edged sword. I love mine but some people don't like having the extra cam timing stuff for the exhaust and they do have the potential to drink more oil since the redline is 7000 rather than 6500.

Plus the '06-'07 you definitely have the CD009 transmission, '05 it's sort of hit/miss and most of them were CD006 which will are more prone to synchro issues.

Stop sweating about learning to drive manual, it only takes about a week or two and you'll be comfortable with it. Just don't slip the clutch too much when starting to move, if you're on an uphill stop don't be afraid to pull back on the emergency brake to hold the car steady while you work the clutch and load up the chassis a bit, you'll get used to the timing of it but it takes about a month.

Definitely don't be afraid of stalling the car at a stoplight, heck I still do that about once a year and I've been driving manual for decades...

The red one with test pipes and muffler delete is going to sound like S.H.!.T...

So... finding a G35 with an interior that's in good condition, under 125000 miles, and at a fair price points has been a little more challenging than expected. Either a really good deal gets posted and the car fly's off the market within a few hours, the car is just way too far to travel to, or you start asking questions and realize theirs some sort of issue that's not listed in the posting (Like the grey one listed above that had a issue with running hot.) A few hours ago a guy posted this one that I'll post pictures of below. It's a Silver 2005 5AT with 125k and no check engine lights for 5500. The body looks like its in really good shape, only noticed a few marks on the bumper. Interior looks pretty good as well. It has after market headlights(not a big fan), taillights(also includes OEM), racing strips (hideous imo), and exhaust(we'll see). Talked with the guy on the phone and he seemed really transparent. The car is about 3 hours from me so I'm going to drive out tomorrow night and look everything over and hopefully it checks out ok. I'll run the vin number on Carfax in the morning to verify any accidents. If all goes well.. racing strips are the first to go!

Any recommendations for a little self check list that I'm going to make for looking the car over?

Looks like an HK rep exhaust, depending on what they did with the cats/test pipes/resonated test pipes it can actually sound pretty decent.

Currently Busted - as usual
Informative thread, thanks for sharing.

Seeing about the same prices here.
(SF Bay Area and SD, in CA)

We use something called "Craig's List" (CL). In some areas it is solid gold. In others, spotty. If you want price comparisons... well... Texas is no doubt cheaper. What I see (having been looking on and off) is:

* Bay Area = Top Prices
* San Diego = Low prices on Luxury Cars

Example Search: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/search/...ax_price=10000
Filters: Price Range, Owner Only (no dealers)
Search: Notice I am using a wild card after G, this accounts for things like G35 vs G 35... which are not direct matches

Most of the guys I know.. drive out to "The Valley"... so... Anywhere 200 to 300 miles inland from the port or coast. Out there, things sell for what they are worth (instead of market value). On that note... (and I am a total nOoB here, 1st post basically)... I would like to call for a moment of Silence.

...
...
It is ... befuddling... that for a mere $4,200 ... one can buy a machine such as this. Something like an 06 G35. I mean... COME ON... right? We are fussing over small rips in fabric and rock chips... while... we are getting an Executive Sport Coup for basically free. ... I mean... I build a lot... and often I buy something or other on CL for $50 then spend $150 at the hardware store just getting tubes, hoses, hose clamps, fittings, bits of material...

...Parts
...Material
...Labor
...Validation, never mind DESIGN!

Sigh...

So..
Just ...
Be in awe of the fact that you are even considering getting this magnificent machine for something like $4k - $7k. That... is one HELL of a deal... and... if it breaks -> P E R F E C T

That is when your education begins*
