when the 06 just came out, i got the DG Automatic with premium, sport, nav, aero. and out the door i got $41,612.04. At the time, it seemed like a good price because it had just come out. Do you think i got ripped?

First of all, you pretty much know whether you got ripped or not, second what is your sales tax rate? if its 5% then YES!

problem with "invoice" pricing is that it's really not invoice.

if it is true then i paid $300 UNDER invoice. and no one is going to sell a car at a loss.

And it would be a HUGE loss, seeing how they have to pay the salesman a commision, prepping the car, and filling up the tank.

Im not an expert on this by any means btu i was under the impression that though dealers buy the car at the listed invoice price there are other incentives the dealerships get for selling a vehicle. Basically a kickback from the manufacture for selling the car or a number of cars. The "kickback" varies from each manufacture/dealer. If you read up on edumnds.com you can find alot more details about this. Ontop of these kickbacks someone mentioned to me that when a dealership "buys" a vehicle from the manufacture to sell it actually finances it and part of the kickback is that the manufacture pays for one month of finance charges... so after a month the dealership is eating into their cost by keeping it longer. So if the vehicle sat on the lot for 2 months the dealer will be more inclined to sell the car giving up more of its kickback. LIke i said im no expert but im prety sure the kickback concept is real according to edmonds.

$38,250 seems a little high if thats just the sales price.
The invoice on that pacakge is 37,956. You should have been able to walk away with 37,700 with some bargaining. But you got all the options you want and thats wha matters:-) Enjoy your ride. Hows the car handling??

Well just to add another data point., I just bought an 06 5AT today. Didn't squeeze every last dime out of them, but i'm happy with it. Gets delivered from another dealer tomorrow

Premium Package w/intellikey, Wheel Package, Mat and Splash guards (freakin PIO options), and $140 PIO charge for wheel locks, $35,430 before TTL. And here, Sales tax is capped at $300
