Question about Salvage on Vehicle report
Hi Everyone,
I'm new to these forums. I've been looking for a 2003 g35, and found a 2004 on ebay. It has the premium and aero package, 39000 mi, and the seller is asking for 26000. I got him to 23,500, contigent that I look at the report. On the report, the car says that it was salvaged last summer. I don't think the person who's selling it know this, b/c they bought it off a dealer after the salvage, but said they got a pretty good deal. 1. Should I just stay clear of this car, or 2. get the price lower b/c of the salvage. The car looks excellent, the only problem is the airbag light won't turn off. Tell me what you guys think. Thanks.

don't do it. i know from experience. my mom bought a salvaged 2003 TL a few years ago. at first it seemed like a great buy. everything looked great on the inside and outside. after a few months though, some problems started to become apparent (noise/rattles/creaking/suspension noises/unsmooth ride). in other words, save yourself the hassle. pay now instead of paying later with $$ and inconvenience.
Don't even CONSIDER that car!!! My wife is the Title Manager for a very large Salvage Pool here in Atlanta. Actually they have three within an hour of Atlanta, one in Tifton, one in Savannah, one in Knoxville and one in Ashville NC. They have many more that they don't own, but pay a fee to them to use their name. At my wifes lot alone they sell around 600 wrecked cars EACH WEEK. For the car to have a salvage title it would have to be 1; totaled by an insurance company, 2; have more than TWO major components damaged. (IE front clip and rear clip plus one more area such as motor/transmission, or side(s) or interior. Many many MANY buyers out there at these auctions buy the cars and repair them, take them to another state and get a clean title, never telling the prospective buyer what happened.
I've literally seen them take the front from one car, the rear from another and weld them right down the middle!
Then I've seen them in order NOT to get a salvage title, take a car that didn't have a straight piece of metal on it AT ALL and take EVERYTHING from the floorboards up off the car. It was a convertable, so the top was gone right off the bat. All that was left was the engine and front end, (both front fenders were off), the firewall and dash, and one good door. Then from the dash back was a severely bent up floorboard. They pulled and pounded on the floorboard for over a week just to get it close to spec. Then they put new rear inner and outer fenders, new rear pan, trunk lid, door plates and strikers, door sill plates, new front door hinge plate on one side, both front fenders, one door, hood, and of course new interior and new convertable top. They put it on their car lot and NEVER told anyone that it'd been wrecked! (This guy was one of the biggest buyers in Atlanta of salvage at the time. He ended up on the news 3 different times in 18 months or so and finally had to go out of business.) The key is look how many people were driving rolling junk during that time!?!?!?!
There are too many good G coupes out there to mess with this one. Gotta' walk... no RUN away from this deal.

DO NOT BUY IT!!!
I bought a salvage 93 accord from a friend who rebuilt the car, the car was just as good as a new one. The key was he knew I was going to buy the car so he did great work on it and I saw the car before it was repaired. Now my sister, she bought a 01 salvage accord after I had good sucess with mine, problem was she bought it from a stranger. After buying the car it had many many problems. It had leaks, rattles, doors that wouldn't close tight, and it handled very bad. We called up the lady she bought the car from, turns out she was selling the car for her husband that worked at a body shop, we were mislead into thinking she was a private party seller. We went down to the body shop to get the problems worked on, while down there we saw two 04 style accords on these body frame jigs. One of them had the front end completely smashed and the other had the back end smashed, it was pretty clear they were planning to piece the two cars together. On top of that it had a bad tranny after three months of buying it and about 4 months ago it needed the ABS computer replaced. The tech that worked on the ABS problem complained to us how bad the frame work was. My sister got into a minor fender bender and she took the car over to my friends, he worked on it and when I went to pick it up he commented on how the steering wheel was never bolted down and was short of coming off
.
Lesson learned, my family will never buy another salvage title car.
