Broke in my Porter-Cable 7424 for the first time! WOW!!

I know, I know... there are oodles of threads talking about dual action orbital polishers and the great things they do. But I just HAD to put in my "+1" for the P/C I picked up last fall. I finally got to break'er out yesterday and wow was it fun. I can't get over how much more efficient and simple the whole process became! I'm a die-hard "all-by-hand" guy - from wash to finish - and have never used a power tool to detail with (it was kind of my own zen-like workout - 3 hours of rewarding hard work). But now????!! Man, its sweet - I'd like to just detail over and over and over again. It rocked - I'd reccommend a polisher to anyone. If you're thinking about it, like I used to, you really should go for it. You'll be totally amazed.

Wait till your friend's ask you to polish their cars for them. I've done my car, my Fiancee's car, my Fiancee's Dad's car and my best friend's car.

I felt much the same way, Al, and was a little leary about it being a power tool, but now I've used if a few times, it really is a time saver, and with the dual action (orbital), it's practically infallible.
I do tend to use more wax with it tho, that's the only drawback...

So where's the proof of all this hard work???????? PICS.....

C.

I'd really consdier investing if it saves a lot of time. It still takes me a long time with my 8inch orbiter (I think it's Simoniz) to seal and wax the whole car, not to mention it's big and won't get the small areas. How does the P/C save me more time?

^ I have one like you have as well as the PC. The comparison of the two is like comparing a Geo is to a Ferrari.

As I see it the PC won't really save much time. It 's about safely doing a proper job of preparing the paint before you seal and wax, which can't be done with the orbitor.

woohoo!!! i broke my PC 7424 out this week as well.

it can't get to small places...those still need to be done by hand, and I ended up prepping the car (taping the trim pieces) more than I usually do if I was going to wax by hand.

the dual action is GREAT at applying paint cleaners and swirl removers since those take way too much effort by hand. also very useful in applying wax and removing it. it is faster and much easier on the arm.

the forums run by mike phillips at www.meguiars.com are extremely informative. i had bought some Sonus pads and cleaners, but will prolly end up getting some Meguiars stuff later.

i can not tell you how much fun it is to use this machine.

Congrats on finally finding out the wonders of the Pc.
I too was a person that believed in doing everything by hand until i borrowed someone's PC a few weeks ago.
My car's paint has never been in a condition that I needed to use a PC but I did a friends car with a PC who had swirl marks and scratches all over.
Lets just say the PC worked wonders and did things to his I would never have been able to do by hand.

Yeah now I have a 7" mark on my paint from it being burned

Most prefer PC cause it's hard to mess up the paint using a PC.
Rotary requires more skills and it's less forgiving towards mistakes being made by the user.
Once a user is more proficient with a PC then the next step would be a rotary but I would still be very cautious.

Doesn't the PC have the same random orbitor motion like a regular orbitor? What makes it so much safer?

If it's like a ferrari as in you're paying for brand, performance and looks, then i'd rather not get the PC....I'd get it if it was either much safer and/or saved me any time.

Ok, it's like comparing a Geo to a Volvo. Better?

I bought mine 7424 about 3 weeks ago, thanks Finiti35 she talked into getting one, and indeed it was definetly a good investment. It's very easy to use & the best part is no more swirl marks..

As far as I am concerned the PC 7424 is the only DA worth having. I've been using one almost 10 years now.
