I am getting into my 18K oil change, think this would be a good idea to go to full synthetic now? or later down the road.

I switched to synthetic at my 2nd oil change...no problems.

Did the same with my previous car too. I was glad that I made the switch.

Good deal, thanks for the heads up.

I normally use Amsoil, but at that price

Anyone know if there are there different blends of Mobil1 ?
I seem to remember something a while back

I've watched carefully but have not seen anything to that effect. I know Castrol does.

Ian,
Seems to me Mobil makes 3 'blends' (of synthetic): their regular synthetic and 2 others that supposedly are good for higher mileages.....something like 7500m & 15000m...
I believe they're well identified on the containers tho.-- and would imagine they are more expensive .......

Yes, that's right. I wasn't thinking of the special mileage blends.

Thanks Colin....
Just went to the Mobil1 site.
Mobil 1 Extended;
Delivers advanced performance and guaranteed protection of critical engine parts for 15,000 miles. This fully-synthetic formulation is designed for today's longer service intervals.

.

Mobil 1
Mobil 1, the world's leading synthetic motor oil exceeds the industry’s toughest standards and outperforms all conventional oils. In fact, many car builders put Mobil 1 in their vehicles before they leave the factory.

Then there's the Mobil Clean series...
Blends & dyno.

Since I won't be keeping this baby much longer..... I'll give it a try.

I've got all my sample analysis reports on Amsoil, it'll be a good chance to see how Mobil 1 compares.

I was in at the local PartsSource to pick up some oil, thanks guys for posting the sweet deal! I asked someone there about the extended performance oil. It seems that although the oil is designed to protect the engine up to 20,000k, they have not yet released a filter that is designed for this extended mileage. Seems kinda strange no? What is the normal lifespan of a regular oil filter? 5 - 10 thousand k?
