Cage in progress

Has nothing to do with the G, but just in case some of you are interested in a track car build, I snapped some pics this morning when I stopped by the shop. I went in to check if I had enough headroom between my helmet and halo.

LOL, you're not very serious about racing and don't seem to be having much fun with it. Right?

Exciting looking safety improvements. What will that do for rigidity/flex and how does cage weigh?

LOL, yep...going to the track is an absolute chore...I hate it...wish I could get out of it and do things like mow the lawn instead.

It'll weigh about 140lbs after it's all done. I intentionally held off on any weight lightening (except for the major interior bits) until I got the cage so that the car wouldn't feel any heavier after the cage. You can see that the entire sunroof, rails and entire assembly have been removed. I'll also be ripping out the AC, swapping in a manual steering rack so the net weight increase with the cage will only be about 50lbs. I'm told that the gusseted cage reduces flex so much that it will completely transform the car.

Excellent. You'll be safer, handling will be better and weight will be close.

Hopefully the 7 will enjoy life as a F/T track car as much as you enjoy driving.

Nice car Ian. Memories of great toys are wonderful. You had some fantastic driving trip stories with that car that you shared with us this summer.

Wow, that's beautiful prep work on that 914. Love the spotless garage too - it's like an F1 garage!

Yeah, I can't wait...lots of learning to do with the standalone EMS though. I'll be tuning it myself just to learn.
