A little review on the 550i

I got a chance to drive one of those today (for testing purpose ^^), that beast has so much torque... and I have noticed a few things:

1) I was being pinned back into the seat in the 2k ~ 5k rpm range from first to fourth gear. However, I notice that their top ends are not that great.

2) I now really like the way that downshifts should follow moment of inertia: i.e. upshift is pulling towards myself

3) The seat is 20 ways adjustable... and have adjustable side lumbar support; which is the best seat I have had rode on so far. I felt like I was being hugged by the seat =)

4) I don't think I can afford one anytime soon tho lol... I would look into a 335 first

LOL... you want handling & torque
...saw a vid of a Z4 M.... with $10 taped to the windshield;
the passenger couldn't reach the money 'cause of the torque pushing him into his seat.

550i's are koo...but i wouldnt waste my money... i would cough up the lil extra for the M5...the M5 feels slow from 0-60 ... but once you get up to 80 it just wants to keep climbing...

I am wondering how you figure the M5 feels slow from 0 to 60. This only takes 4.4 seconds in a 4100 lb. car. My M5 is as quick to 60 as my buddies C6 Vette. Use launch control and this car feels like a rocket. Just curious, feels slow compared to what, a Ferrari?

LOL, I read that and was shocked.

I couldn't respond because I didn't know the exact 1/4 times etc but knew it was fast. Now I know just how fast! Wow.

I think I understand what you mean......
It's that the car is such a fine ride, and not a lightweight by any means, but even more than that is its quietness -- those things can add up to a mistaken sense of slowness.

Conversely, if the exhaust were loud, the suspension harsh, and the tranny kicking into gears it would seem more like a fast car, tho make no mistake, the torque is still there in a big way.

I've noticed the same thing with my M.....that it doesn't bely a typical and common car of that performance.

Rides in this league are very special...they have both luxury and performance and that's not very common.

C.

^^^agreed...the smooth ride, quite cabin (even though im always driving them with the windows down) and the low numbers of torque make the M5 and even the M6 "FEEL" slow
