It costs me a few extra steps but it sure cuts down on body damage and 'stress'.
I'm glad you avoided any damage..... Dings like that are a constant reminder of rudeness and carelessness and can be really upsetting every time you look at your ride.

LOL, indeed, a few extra steps for a marathoner wouldn't present much of a problem...... as you say if that remote spot is there.

Sorry to hear about that RBull. Man, that pisses me right off too.
This reminds me of an incident when I was sitting with my brother-in-law in his car. We were parked and some 30-ish year old blonde lady pulls up and parks beside us. This lady isn't aware we're sitting inside our car.
She opens her door slightly but doesn't get out. She spends about 15 seconds or so fiddling with something in her car and fixing her hair. All of a sudden, we hear a moderate CLUNK as her door hits our passenger-side door. My brother-in-law and I look at each other in disbelief. We both look at the lady expecting an apology was gonna be forthcoming but she still doesn't know we're inside our car as she continues fixing her hair. A few seconds later she steps out of her car and then finally realizes she's been caught red-handed as she is now staring at me right in the face through our door window. I'm thinking...stay cool...it's just a car...she'll apologize. We were both stunned when all of a sudden her obvious embarassment turns into a DIRTY LOOK and then she just walks away. My brother-in-law gets out and yells "Hey lady!" but she just continues walking and ignores us. Luckily, there was no ding but only a minor paint blemish (which couldn't be entirely buffed-out).
A tiny bit of effort or courtesy on someone's part...or 'fessing-up and apologizing...might actually make someone else's day.

If I had a dime for every time a client called me to tell me that someone damaged their car in a parking lot I would be a rich man.
People just don't care, the worst is when you come out of somewhere like Walmart (grrr) and there is a cart right beside your car and the cart park is 20 feet away.
I just want to strangle someone.
Venting done!
