The Cruicial seems the best buy of the bunch - ie known name; lifetime warranty, most reasonable. Any one have it and are there any problems with it ?

You need to look at the performance of these cards. I believe Sandisk Ultra II is one of the top performers in this category. Check CanadaComputers.com for their prices. They might be cheaper than what you have quoted.

He regularly benchmarks CF/SD cards against various cameras. Just because a card says 80x or higher, doesn't mean you will get that speed with your camera. Don't pay for more speed if you don't need it.

As its use in the G is primarily (or entirely) audio, is there a performance point where you just wont hear the difference...or notice the reduced delay in loading??

You will want to look at the read rates of these cards. For typical MP3 playback, they will be more than adequate to deliver the bit rates needed to play back 192 Kbps mp3 files. All CF/SD cards have read rates in the number of MB/s, you only need to stream a few hundred K bits.

So, spend you money on capacity rather than speed here. Of course, speed will help when you want to bulk transfer music files between the card and your computer. Get a good fast USB 2 or Firewire card reader when you get order your card.

I am currently using dual Cruicial 2GB CF cards in my G and I have found they work fine. I paid $24US each for mine.

Unfortunately, getting a 4BG CF card for the G is pointless, since the CF card is llimited to 512 files when played in the G. That is the reason I got two 2GB CF cards.

hmmm. that sucks on the file limit. but u could still fill a 4gb card. i could do it with some of my stuff and still be well under 512. example.. long song length and high bit rate will do it.

something interesting though... without navigation, u can hold up to 999 files. hmmmm... i guess it must be some sort of ram issue.
