From what i have read, it goes like this. However, please don't take my words for it, it is what i have read

Oh ya, some background on things first. From the information I have gathered on the internet, cars that had been registered in USA for more than 6 months, the warranty can be transfered to Canada. So it is possible that the canadian dealership will not honor your warranty if the car was bought new from the states. This is just to show that it would be safer to import a second hand car. Anyways, to the main point. From what i haveread people say that toyata/lexus Nissan/Infiniti do honor the warranty, but Honda/Acura will not. I am not sure about other car manufacturers. Now, I have to stress again, I have never imported a car from the states before so dont take my words for granted!

1. Check on Riv.com, there is a list of cars that are importable and not importable to Canada. In your case, G35 coupe IS importable to Canada.

2. Go to the dealership (in the states). Talk about the price and what not. Assume that you need time to think about buying it or not, you return back to toronto.

3. Assuming that you made the decision to buy the car. You have to notify the boarder (you can find this in riv.com) 72 hours before you get your car there.

4. Now you drive down to the dealership. You should bring a cheque of some kind so you can transfer the money into the specific account they direct you to. However, before doing that, you have to ask them for CALLING LETTER. This is VERY IMPORTANT as without it, your car will not be able to leave US. Pretty much it is a letter stating the car is not a lemon car and it is fully functional and what not. You get the idea. You can either acquire from the manufacturer, not the dealer. I heard you can get it by them faxing it to you or by mail. I have heard some dealership will not give you the calling letter because they know you want to import it, so get the calling letter before paying .

5. Assume you have the calling letter now, you have to pay up! Each states has different tax, for example W.A has 8% tax, you get the idea. You also need to buy insurance in the states and you need a plate.

6. Now that is over, you have to drive back up to the boarder. This part I AM NOT SURE HOW IT REALLY WORKS! but i ll give it a shot. You go to the boarder to get your car inspected, and you have to do some "paper work" (I dont know what the paper work is). And now you have to pay your registeration fee and whatnot. Oh ya, you also need to pay for the GST PST depending on your province.

7. Assuming everything went A-ok. You are now in Canada! Yah! You should buy insurance from ICBC now. The inspector from the boarder will give you a letter telling you if you need to make any modification on the car in order to make it illegal in Canada, and then you have to goto a Canadian tire to get inspected.

8. Assuming your car passes the inspection. Around one week later, you will get a letter from Canadian Official saying that your car is officially imported! WEEH!!

And apparently, thats how you do it. People say its not as hard it sounds, in fact, once you do it, it is a piece of pie to do it a second time! I pretty much summarize what that website wrote and added a bit of what i read from the internet.

I hope you get what I am trying to write! Happy importing

If you are successful in importing, help a brother out and tell me how it goes!

cheers
