07 G35 in Winter
Hi All,
I'm pretty new around here. I have an 05 Acura TL and I'm considering trading it in on an 07 G35. I've driven Honda's/Acura's all my life, however there are a few nagging issues with my TL that the dealers just don't want to fix. Anyways, I've never had a RWD car before and I'm wondering how the G35 will do with some snow tires on? Is it recommended to get the X or is the RWD safe enough and easy enough to drive in a Toronto winter?
Thanks.

The reason I ask is because I don't really like the fact that the X is higher then RWD G35s and also I don't know if its worth the extra money. For the money of the G35X I could get a Sport with those great seats and nicer rims.
So a good set of winter tires should do it then?

As ChristianN said above, the X won't help with braking. You will only notice the awd when accellerating, be it in a straight line or in a corner.
When I bought my 05, the biggest problem I had with the whole purchase was whether I should pop for the X and eventually decided against doing so.
This said, I've got Dunlop M3s for the winter and they handle the 40 km drive I have to the office with no worries. Would I buy the X now? I'd still have a hard time deciding, probably just as tough a time as deciding between getting black again or going with "easier to maintain" silver...
Now, the other thought I've got - if you like to go skiing in snow country, then you can't go wrong with the X, but I'm not sensing that you will be doing this???
Good luck with your decision.

Hey,
This is my first rear wheel car I have ever driven. First time in the winter and I have snow tires. I haven't had any problems what so ever. I think it comes down to the tires and the way you drive. If you drive fast in icy/snowy conditions, I dont think the car is to blame.

An X is the way to go, at least you will have all four wheels gripping the road.
Of course, don't forget it's the TIRES that touch the road, so, a set of winter tires may be needed.
I actually run on the OEM all season tires. No problems so far. AWD gives you lots of confidence though.

Live in Calgary, had an 03 RWD now 05 X & getting 07 X, gotta have AWD. Better resale value as well. Don't need it all the time but when you do you will be glad you went X. You are lucky this has been a mild winter in ON but it is not always like that?
I have a RWD on snows, haven't had a problem yet. Obviously even with snows, you can't expect to get all pwr to the ground. It gives me the confidence to take corners and drive at the same speed as in summer, however, I usually drive slower than normal.
