I'm having trouble figuring out which year to go for. Apparently the interior on the '05s were tweaked a bit to make them look a little bit nicer, and the brake issues were solved. Is that true?

Ohh and RBull, I'm glad that I'm around to talk about it too! lol
Yes the interiors were tweaked in the '05+. I'm not sure what brake issue you are referring to.

Make sure you drive the G for atleast an hour to make sure the seat belt switches do not jam into your thigh and cause a shooting pain up your back as it does with me and a few other people.

I think you're referring to the power seat switches.

Ahahaha L Tuner & SK, I see you're bigger forum ****** than me lol

Sharad, I didn't know you have a G35, that's sick!

RBull, I just read somewhere that the BBK were expensive to fix, and the pads wore down quickly or something like that, and that it was taken care of after the 03/04 models. I might have just read it wrong though.

Mannn, I still want an STi though

The brembo brakes were offered on M6 coupes 03-04 only. As a higher performance brake they have softer pad compounds which likely wear a little faster. They also have more pistons and parts to potentially wear out or service. Therefore they are a more expensive brake to repair and replace parts for. That's especially true if you buy OE parts and have the dealer service them. Many people buy parts online for rotors and pads which is much more reasonable. I have 25k km on mine now and they have been measured to an expected life of 50-60+k km.

Be advised the '03/04 non Brembo brakes had an extended warranty to 60k km additional 24 or 36? months to resolve some reported brake issues. That warranty has likely expired with most cars that may be affected.

Not sure if you remember, but I was looking into the STi as well. IT took some dissuading but all the signs pointed away from the STi for me. I wasn't looking for a car to dump serious cash into again, and it'd be hard not to with the STi. There is no luxury in it. It's more costly with insurance (for me anyway) and everyone I knew picked the IS & G over the STi.

As for the Brembo's, they were no longer equipped on the G's starting in 05. They were replaced with regular Infiniti calipers that were just as big I believe....someone correct me on that last one if i'm wrong.

The pads were costly and produced lots of brake dust.

Your right , it is the power seat switches not the seat belt ( not sure why i put that) . I don't own a G but have driven more than a few for a good bit and i find the damn thing sticking me in the side of my leg for the way i am positioned when driving. If buying new get the 1 year longer warr over the 350z but if used i would take the 350z as a personal preference.

Better yet is to buy a mid term car until you can get a IS350 , we'll still show you love either way.

Here are the brake specs for Infiniti G35 vehicles. As you can see the Brembo brake rotors are larger and thicker than the improved '05+ OE ones. The calipers are also larger with additional pistons.
As I said above the pads are slightly more expensive than OE type and as a softer compound will dust more too.

05+ Sedan and Coupe, '06 Sedan X
Front: 12.6-inch X 1.1-inch power-assisted vented disc - 2 pistons
Rear: 12.1-inch X .63-inch power-assisted vented disc - 1 piston

'03 and '04 Sedan, '04 and '05 Sedan X
Front: 11.7-inch X 0.9-inch power-assisted vented disc - 1 piston
Rear: 11.5-inch X 0.6-inch power-assisted vented disc - 1 piston

'03 and '04 Non-Brembo Coupes
Front: 11.65-inch x 0.94-inch power-assisted vented disc - 1 piston
Rear: 11.5-inch x 0.63-inch power-assisted vented disc - 1 piston

'03 and '04 Coupe Brembos
BremboŽ brakes
Front: 12.76-inch x 1.18-inch power-assisted - 4 pistons
Rear: 12.68-inch x 0.87-inch power-assisted - 2 pistons
