Tint Question - Need Opinions

I haven't yet tinted my 07 G yet, but am looking to get it done in the next couple of weeks. On my 03 G, I had the rear windows at 35% and my front windows at 50%. I went with the lighter front windows because it is illegal to have any tint on them and I didn't want to draw too much attention from the Police.

On my 07, I would prefer to go with the same percentage of tint all around, but at the same time, I want to provide protection to my daughter from UV rays. I was thinking of putting 35% all around and take the risk of getting a fine from the Police. My question is, do you think 35% will offer enough protection for my daughter, or should I go a little darker on the rear windows?

The factory tint does a much better job nowadays screening UV and reducing heat. I think 35 all around is the way to go. :)

We didn't have any tint whatsoever growing up and spent a lot of time in the car travelling windows down (no air) with no bad affects. I don't think you need worry about your daughter. ;)

Shane I also think 35% is the way to go. I had that on my 05 and my 07. I would not go any darker.

I have 30% on the sides and 20% in back with no troubles.

Deane/Wayne, thanks for your thoughts. I guess I just want to make sure that I keep as much sunlight out of the back seat as possible. I don't want to resort to one of those tacky sunshades that you stick on the inside of your window.......which is why I was concerned about 35% being dark enough. :)

I'm sure you will not have to worry about excess sun with 35% tint.

You could always just move your sign around to block the sun. :D ;)

LOL, I can just see the G now all pimped up with a bunch of baby stuff from Crappy Tire! :D There is as much chance of that happening as it being a balmy 90 degrees here tomorrow. :D

Wayne, you got 35% all around as well didn't you?

Yes my 07 is 35%. You saw my 05 and Ian's 04 when we were visiting you, that was with 35% on both cars.

Shane,

I looked under the Hwy Traffic Act for NB . It says under Section 238(1.4) that max tint would be 30% from what I understood.

Check it out for yourself in case I misinterpreted the definition.

Thanks for the link Bill. If I am understanding that correctly, I can have up 30% tint on the front windows......which is how you interpreted it as well.

238(1.4) No person shall operate on a highway a motor vehicle on which the front windshield, or the side wings or side windows to the right or the left of the driver, have been treated, coated or covered with a colour spray or other coloured material or any opaque or reflective material that prevents more than thirty per cent of any light from passing through in either direction when measured by a photometer.

That's interesting because it was always my understanding that NB didn't allow any tint on the front windows. Am I reading that correctly?

Shane - the percentage of the tint has much less to do with how much UV/solrar radiation is allowed in than the material nowadays. For example, 5% limo dyed tint allows in much more solar radiation than 50% Huper Optik Ceramic; even though the HU allows in more *light*.

Oh, and as far as I can tell that law would mean you can have 70% max. 70% allows 70% light in, so it prevents 30%.

I'd still go 35% all around personally, I don't think it'd be a problem. I would just make sure to go with either a full metallic or full ceramic film, Solargard UP, Huper Optik, Pinnacle Formula One, or 3M Crystalline.

Awesome Kevin, thanks a bunch. :)

Maybe its best to check with the local Popo just to make sure:)

^+1.

That makes sense about the 70% tint allowable. In NS it is 35% rear and rear sides only. No tint on driver and passenger or windshield. I have the full metallic 38% on the 5 windows.
