On another note, how are you guys affording these cars as students? I'm impressed!

Obviously you are working several part-time jobs to pay your way through school, so I guess these jobs pay a lot better than a few years ago when I graduated. Unless you're dealing or know a great bookie!
yea, a lot of people wonder how i afforded it..well i go to the canadian version of westpoint for university..(www.rmc.ca) so my degree is fully subsidized by the government..well tax payers...so thanks guys! haha..i graduate with a bachelor's of mechanical engineering ...got my iron ring a few weeks ago and upon graduation i am commissioned as an officer in the forces... so instead of paying for tuition like a sucker, i get paid to go to school...i told myself that was the only way i'd go to university..i was gonna be a typical asian and go to waterloo for their co-op program but being paid to write exams is a lot more tempting than paying to write them.

the car was a private sale, gave the guy a bank draft...ownership will be transferred later today...got my insurance done...friday's so close i can almost taste it...!! oh funny thing is that i've only driven a stick for like 20 minutes...so this should be interesting! don't laugh at me if u see a black coupe stalled along the road
haha.

Ya, same here, people always ask how I afford it, well I go to the University of Alberta and am in the business Co-op program, so I work for 4 months then go to school for 4 months, etc. I work at an accounting firm in downtown Edmonton that pays well too, so just took a loan from the bank to buy the g. Insurance is only a grand a year full coverage for the g35 because I drive a 2000 prelude in the winter, and my insurance company is not double charging me full price for the g, sooo lucky.

i went the u of a as well, great school. grad '05 Civil Engineering. my roomate was grad '06 business, president of the BSS. i thought that starting salaries at the big accounting firms were all about equal, and quite low (until you get your CA, that is!)?

as you are in accounting you obviously have worked the numbers so that you aren't overextended. that's a lot of $$ tied-up in vehicles for a student, a 2000 prelude is a nice "winter beater". well done for making it all work!

$1000/year is a good premium for the g, i pay about $1300/year in Vancouver for full coverage.

Congrats. welcome to the profession. Be sure to diversify your experience as much as possible, don't get stuck working on similar projects right away!

WOOO-HOOO! Nice to know there are other engineers on this site --- me too! Graduated from UofT Electrical Engineering but over 20 years ago. You can pretty much toss out that Iron Ring now --- never had much use for it. When you become a P.Eng. watch for friends & family come out of the woodwork to get you to sign their Passports. It'll get worse with the new US border-crossing rules. Beyond that, I hate to say, not much use for that P.Eng. designation either.

Cheers eh!

hahaha this makes me laugh coz my brother said the same thing (he's not Peng, but he has like an mba and a masters in engineerin) my sister in law on the other hand was defending the title..saying how it means alot and people respect you more for it...also its funny coz a week ago i attended a mandatory presentation on PEO and the prof kept going on and on about how it's so highly respected...so we should all strive for it...haha....but basically, all u can do is sign passports for free..haha.!

Congrats on the new ride man and Black is still nice. It is harder to keep clean but very classy when it is.

Enjoy.

And yes, 35,000 for an 05 with that amt of kms sounds about right from the research i did in December 06 - February 07

congrats on the new G, you're going to love it! Too you couldn't get your hands on an IP, but black is equally good.

Post up some pics when you get it!

Welcome to the board.

I drive an OB and I highly suggest you invest in a California Duster from Parts Source.

I've been able to keep my car beautiful in between washes with this thing.
