Question Intelligent Key system on a 350z?

How hard would it be to fit the Intelligent Key system into a 350z? Is that even possible? I'm wondering cause it seems like the option isn't available for g35c owners with manual transmission...

what kind of work would be involved?

I figured I'd ask here since InTgr8r seems to be wiz with electronics from his G35 sedan projects

any comments would be appreciated!

why would you want to do this? it's useless technology. you still have to carry the keyfob in your pocket so it doesn't do away with the inconvenience, i guess, of carrying around a set of keys. additionally, you still have to twist the ignition where the key would normally go.

i don't get this option. how labour intensive is placing a key into the ignition?

i'm all for a remote start system, but the I.K. system doesn't even do this. although i could be wrong about that...

To be honest with you, I thought the same thing at first. The ignition part can be considered "useless" but I like it and am very accustomed to it. It comes in very handy.

But the most important part of the intelligent key fob for me is when I have had my hands full of stuff, and using a finger just to press a button to unlock and lock the doors and trunk came in very handy. That is, I don't want to be fumbling around in my pockets for keys when my hands are full, nor do i want to rest the stuff in my hands down, referring to when it is raining or snowing and the ground is wet.

Also, during the colder months, I have gloves on maybe 99.9% of the time and when I get close to my car I just press the unlock/lock button. Otherwise I have to take off my gloves and then fumble for keys in my pocket. I don't know. maybe it is just me, but ever since I have it, I really LOVE it and can't do without it.

My .02 cents

it's a great feature on a new car, but i don't think the costs of retrofitting would justify it

I agree with him... However once you have it all other cars ar annoying.. It's nice to just walk up and press a button on the door or trunk & open it at the same time . . .

haha, i figured the cost is what's gonna kill this idea. thanks for the input guys.

I only thought about it cause i find it incredibly annoying that i have to carry a key + keyfob together. I wanted to get rid of one of them, so i wanted to see opinions of the intelligent key system first as it was more fancy/hi-tech (remote only).

I know my friend went the other route, which i may give a shot as well, which is to replace the key with the one that has a remote attached to it (like bmw/vw/etc). He managed to retro his saab key into a VW key...so I'll just have to find one that's compatible with the Z first.

JM2C ....sorry but, it sounds like more of a challenge than it's worth.
(if it's doable at all)
