Get rid of Front Licence Plate!

I totally support this petition for Ontario. WHY are other provinces doing it and not Ontario?
Let's get rid of it!

Doesn't look good for Winnipeg. They just paid another $70 Million for more photo radar cameras...

We still need one but petition is to make it so we don't.
Has anyone actually seen the law where it says you need the front plate?

They are looking hard at them here. I wouldn't be surprised if we see front plates happen.

Alberta is considering bringing back the front plate!

It would probably help other's causes if you wrote a letter
to the Edmonton Journal: letters@thejournal.canwest.com,
or the Calgary Herald: letters@theherald.canwest.com,
re the faulty thinking behind this and/or log on to
http://www.licenceplate.alberta.ca/survey.aspx and voice your opinions.

After all, if Alberta goes back, it's going to be harder to fight to remove yours!

The link is right but the text is wrong, s/b letters@theherald.canwest.com, but it'll work. Great idea! I've done the survey and letters to the Herald so far are basically saying "Look, this is stupid and a waste of money. Do something useful."

Whoops! Link corrected.

This is what I just submitted:

Saskatchewan, Alberta, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and the three Territories all use single license plates, only at the rear of vehicles. An on-line petition is currently being circulated at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/O...ate/index.html to eliminate the front plate in Ontario.

The discontinuation of front plates has saved Saskatchewan almost $400,000 annually according to Maynard Sonntag, the previous SK Minister responsible for SGI. With the higher numbers of vehicles, how many dollars has this saved for Alberta since the change to singles?

Not only does the reintroduction of front plates present a financial cost to the Provincial coffers, but will cost the owners of numerous vehicles that may not have front plate brackets, and I have little doubt that the Province will raise its registration renewal rates in the future.

Consider that many modern vehicles are designed, both esthetically and aerodynamically without front plates. Front brackets are added as an afterthought, which negatively affect both of these important considerations. I also remember how the front plate would often become quickly battered and unsightly on previous cars.

Front plates have limited value for law enforcement as it is the rear of the vehicle that is seen on a driven vehicle, not the front which is not even illuminated so cannot be seen clearly at night. Other times where the front plate would be useful are extremely limited, and certainly would not justify its return. I'm hoping that Alberta will not take this step backward without consideration of its true costs.
