Oil Changes
Oil Changes
Well I'm about due for my car's first Oil Change (I'm at about 4000 Km's). I think from reading, the second oil change on the car SHOULDN'T be synthetic yet, unless you guys have an opinion about that?
Anyways, I was wondering where you folks get your oil changes done or do you do it yourself?
Do you go to the dealership (how much is it?), Oil change places like Mr. Lube (how much is it there?) or yourself (what's the cost of that?).
Basically I want to get a list down of:
Oil Type (synthetic or reg):
Change Place:
Cost:
All info would be appreciated!
Thx

I changed mine to synthetic at 3000 kms. Works perfectly and uses no oil whatsoever.

Mine's due for a change but it just turned a million below here, so waiting a few days for a chinook. I wish I knew where to get an oil analysis done and how much it cost. Not fanatical about it, more curious to know how long I can/should go between changes.

It's a HUGE advantage when it comes time to sell a car.

OP please forgive the 'jack, but this may be useful info for you, too.
Finally had a window of decent weather yesterday (snowing today!) so I changed oil at about 9000 km. The oil *looked* good -- I know you can't tell anything from that, but it wasn't thick or particularly dirty and the filter didn't feel like it had a lot of dirt in it. I may cut it apart just for kicks and see how it looks. In any case, this makes me a bit more comfortable that I left the change longer than I intended and still appear to be in good shape. I won't likely ever run it much longer than that, but seems 8-10k km is not problematic.
As an added bonus I got some help from my 'crew'; at 9 and 7 it's not too young for them to start learning vehicle maintenance!
