I declined his request because;

1. VoIP licenses are not cheap.
2. His position in the company do not mean anything to me as I am responsible for all of our technology needs and budgets and I don't play favourtism.
3. No one in my company possesses both a desk phone and a VoIP phone, including the CEO.
4. He provided no justification why he needed both phones.

This Exec was only hired about two months ago and it seems like he is trying to make a name for himself. Yeah, one of those guys. Anyways, after being completely rude to both myself and my staff, I held my ground and he didn't get the VoIP phone. I got a snarky email from him at the end of the day and simply responded with "Have a great weekend"

Why do some people have to be such arrogant @ssholes in the workplace? Everyone in a company is supposed to be on the SAME team, right?

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Too young to relate to your scenario yet; if I ever denied anything to management at my work I would be booted through the door...

But my bro had a similar problem at work. His company projected revenue for 07 was 15 million. They made only 12 million. As a result; nobody recieved their yearly bonuses. Now this would be alright if everyone didn't recieve it; but certain execs in the company are paid on an hourly wage. This means they have recieved overtime for all the hours they worked; while the other employees recieved no compensation for their overtime; which they were seeking in the annual bonus (usually 8-10k). To add to this; those certain executives still made an annual salary of 250k+ while everyone else in the company made probably around 60-80k. To add to that; because they did not reach their target; they will be cutting cost (jobs) to make up for their losses. Instead of going to the source of the X factor; they will be cutting positions from the company; further declining growth. My bro is also pissed because he soley designed and provided an application for AOL which his company sold for 80k; yet he recieves nothing for his work...

Can't wait until I enter the corporate world; sure seems like fun!

I think you handled this perfectly, Shane. This is why I can never work for someone ever again. I love being my own boss, I don't have to deal with anyone like that.
