INJEN CAI Wont work properly!!! HELP!

guys,

i just took out my filter and cleaned it for the first time, i used water, and i let dry overnight under a heater and it was bone dry before putting it back in. After doing so, it doesnt seem to be working properly and it wont accelerate hard and make the noise that it use to. It seems like its not getting in air?

could it be a leak? But i never changed anything at all except unscrewing the air filter, cleaning it and then putting it back in!

HELP PLEASE!!

thank you in advance.

i was under the impression that filters should not be put under the heater for drying....

also, does the filter use oil? When I had the Popcharger, you needed a solution to remove the oil, then rinse with water from the tap (not a hose, it's too strong), let it dry normally (without heat), then re-oil, let dry again, then reinstall.

I hope you haven't damaged your filter. Best of luck!

+1.....You've probably trapped water in there or cooked the filter...
Should use something like K&N's Recharger kit to clean and re-oil.

^+1 on the procedure.
- water alone won't clean it & it will ruin the oil that's there

Yeah, you need the K+N cleaner sold separately and it says repeatedly to let the filter dry NATURALLY. You are supposed the rinse it in the OPPOSITE direction of the airflow, otherwise you'll embed the dirt into the filter.

And lastly you need to re-oil the filter before putting back on.

One more point;
....re-oil judiciously.
Too much oil & it will end up on the MAF.

Isn't there a procedure on the Injen web site?

Thanks for all the help i appreciate it. I'm going to buy a new filter. Any reccomendations ? Does it have to be K&N or could it just be a generic one? What do you guys think. Also i just wanted to test it out and make sure nothing is damaged, Is there any harm in taking off the filter and reving up the engine inside the garage as long as the ground is clean and nothing can be sucked in? What do you guys think.

clean the filter in a pan of diluted oxiclean and some club soda, by letting it sit for a couple of hours. then let air dry. it will be almost white then just re-oil.

The problem you are describing sounds like a MAF problem not a filter problem buying a new filter will be a waster of money. You most likely put too much oil on the filter and some got on your MAF. Clean that and you should be fine. If you think it is the filter take it off and rev the car a few times see what happens if it revs fine with out the filter maybe you did ruin it. If it still feels like its not getting air its your MAF. Good Luck let us know how it turns out.

EDIT: in OP you dont mention reoiling the filter?? If you did not reoil the filter after cleaning it the filter is usless the oil is what traps dirt without oil you may have sucked up some dust???

All is well now. What it turned out to be was that when i re-fitted the filter after cleaning it, i put it in way to much so the tube was almost going to the end of the filter. I took it out, put it in again to the right setting and it runs and purrs just like it should.

And i believe i re-oiled it correctly. At least i hope i did.

Thank you for all the suggestions, greatly appreciated. I love this forum.
