Is this required even with a low profile jack, like the one at costco?

so recommend me a low profile jack then, i need something that starts at 3.75" or lower. the aluminum jack is the most expensive model at crappy tire.

i've looked on-line for jack's as well... and they also display the same aluminum jack at the same price point. i think they are all made by the same company and just re-branded for final sale.

i am only using it for changing out my tires for the season's. i think paying 200$ is already high enough for my needs... considering there are heavy duty jacks starting at 49$ ... and please don't tell me i need something obscene from snap-on or the like. it isn't an f1 car that i'm working on.

i think my biggest gripe is that... u walk around a store like crappy tire... and i swear any big ticket item u look seems to have just been returned to the store. most of the boxes are either bashed in or re-taped in some manner. it really throws a consumer's confidence and expectation of quality out the frigging door.

I also bought some 2 1/2 tonne jack stands and those are working out well as well. A little big for the G so I might rig up some jack stand adapters.
i'm assuming u have this one ?

if so.. that's the one i purchased. have a look at it sometime. look at where the jack pivots... u'll see the snap rings i'm talking about. i can only assume that the one i purchased was missing one. if not... that's a really shoddy construction on the damn thing.

to be perfectly honest... they should have used something else to hold it... maybe a cotter pin or locking nut. those snap rings are so flimsy.

Costco is selling a low profile 3 ton jack for $54.99. It is very heavy!!
Have anyone bought this jack and if so, what do you think of it?
I had a 2 ton trolley jack before but after leaving in te garage for several winters, it started leaking hydralulic fluid. The seals probably got damaged from the cold temperature.

sorry to hear about your dilemma Roman. Hope it all works out fine.

I bought a very heavy duty jack from Princess Auto for about $100 IIRC. Weighs about 80 pounds. It's working great

Depends on the car. I have a low profile 3 tonne and need to roll the car on to planks to get it under.

I think the Michelin one is on sale now 25% off ($149.99), not sure it's low prof.

Also Rhino Ramps 25% off. Not sure if the following link will work for any of you, but you can hit the site and check the weekly flyer.

Thanks OP for letting others know. I have heard similar accounts on RFD and it is definately not the best thing for a newbie like me to hear since I was going to pick them up this week...

So is Princess Auto the place to go for car jacks then?
