That was one heck of a bad fire as you could see by the explosions!......
God bless the Firefighter who died at that blaze. He was a true hero.
Prayers and condolences to the family.

Torontonians were lucky that the fatalities were so low. It's very sad when someone who puts his life on the line daily dies. You're right Colin, he is a hero in every sense of the word.

A real nasty event for sure....
The real question that needs to be addressed is, why the hell did this place get built so close to a residential area?????
It was only built 4-5 yrs ago. It's not like it's been there for 20yrs.
I also heard that if not for the new generation of storage tanks that are designed to blow ^up^ instead of < out >, this blast could have taken out 5 city blocks.

I live in Mississauga and it looked like the sun came up really quick and went back down... It lit up my area and I am over at the Q.E.W and Dixie... All my best to the Firefighters family and friends...

Very good points Ian......New tech. does save lives, but as you imply: "Why the hell was that place built there in the first place.
Very sad, and seemingly preventable..
Let's hope this disaster opens eyes ......

quite the blast.
my dad retired from firefighting a while ago, and was quite upset that they had only evacuated a 1.5km radius. a single small propane truck requires a 1km evacuation radius. maybe it is because those tanks "blow" upwards, but still, shrapnel can go a long ways.
condolences to the firefighter's family and friends...
