Shane is away now for a week or so.

I guess safety of other drivers takes precedence.

That sure does not seem right. I wonder if it also has to stop at all traffic lights and stop signs

They way they're keeping a lid on the topic, it seems like a liability situation to me.

Under the provincial Motor Vehicle Act, the driver of an authorized emergency vehicle may "exceed the speed limits so long as he does not endanger life or property."
^ leaves the door wide open for a liable law suit.

I am thinking of something along the lines that maybe happened here in Texas....emergency vehicle hauling to the scene of an accident at night without his lights on hit a 10 year old boy on his bike crossing the street which evidently killed im instantly...the office was running 70mph's in a 40 to get over to the scene....

There was a trial by the parents of the boy who are in disgust of the Dallas Police department because at the trial day they brought in video evidence from the dash cam without showing the parents and presented it in Court of the office hitting the lil boy...they made an announcement that only police officers can go 15-20mph over the speed limit if there lights are on and there sirens running....the only time they can exceed that is if an officer is in danger or they are on a highspeed chase.

I know that here in Dallas, Texas almost all FD stop at traffic lights and intersections because of those certain idiots that dont see the FLASHING LIGHTS and SIRENS...

My wife's dad is a fire fighter, my best friend is, and Im about to start sometime soon becoming one!

I forgot Shane-o was off to the warm stuff.

I an see where in a smaller centre the response time would not be significantly affected and I'm sure it's a liability thing, as Ian suggests.
