Sounds like you are zeroing in on a fair price; you came up with 760, he's down to 800. In the end original cost etc., has little to do with it, they are worth what the buyer and seller agree that they are worth. Just don't get too stuck on this one deal, there should be others out there. But if you really like the setup, offer him 750 and then hold fast, let silence be your best negotiating tool.

Well...I bought the set yesterday. It turns out that the two tires I first saw (see pics in post #1) were the LF & RF and more worn than the other two the owner still had at home which were marked as LR & RR (he marks were he takes them from). The tread is still nearly 8mm deep on the two tires he had in his garage so I am happy. The rears will be rotated to the front when I put them on my G.
I washed up the wheels, removed all the brake dust and what-not, and they look like new. I will likely be putting them on the car tonight so I will post a pic tomorrow some time.
Paid $800.

Good stuff Paul, I will be looking for the pics of your new winter set up when you get them on.

It is very important to mark where the tires came from. Your Blizzaks are directional and if you leave them on the same rims you must keep them on the same side. So you should switch them from front to back each year but keep them on the same side (unless you dismount them from the rims)

oh yea i think one thing that might be worth checking is when the tire is made, because just because there is alot of tread left, the tire can be really old and there was a video that posted here what happens to old tires (even thought they are new).

That's what I will do Wayne...(front to back only, and visa versa next season)
Thanks!

Thanks. I saw that video a while ago too. Very interesting and it did prompt me to look at the date. They are only 3 years old.
I doubt Blizzaks sit on the shelves for very long.

That's great Paul...
Going to mount mine tonight as well.

I started mounting on Sunday & realized that I'd forgotten to buy hub rings when I bought the wheels.

...just picked up a set from Steelcase, no charge

Thought this was a good spot as any:
Purchased a used set of snow tires couple months ago, about 4K km on them.
The previous owner marked the location of the tires, front/rear etc.
As I don't really have a setup or time to change them, I'll need to have it done somewhere next week (hope it's not too late, but there is the other vehicle just in case).
As they have been balanced, there should be no reason to rebalance?
What would a reasonable price for tire change out be?
Is the dealership the right place to get this done?
Any other thoughts appreciated.
thanks!

On rims $30 to do the change up.

Update - Blizzak LM-22

I love my new 'previously owned' winter wheels with the Blizzak LM-22's. I think they are a good choice for city winter driving on this vehicle. Performance wise, they don't feel a whole lot different in cornering than the OEM tires. They are a bit noisier but not to the point that its bothersome.
Snow traction is very good starting, stopping and driving windy urban streets. Grip on ice is far better than A/S tires however I'm sure some WS's would be even better.

You did well on this setup imho. However - if the tread depth had been 5-6mm and not the 8mm you measured I would have said walk away.

It always seems a mistake to me when people consider a 5mm tread depth as 50%...to me that assumes you will drive the tire to a depth of 0mm, which especially on a winter tire would be a disaster.

I often consider changing out my winter tires at about 4-5mm, as the tread pattern changes past 7mm and handling diminishes much faster than that of summer and all seasons.
