Stupid Winter Tire Question...

Has anyone put 16" steal rims on a 2006 G35 coup?

If not, disregard the fact that it will throw off the speedo...
can it actually be done? With a taller tire? Would it fit?

Yes I did search, but couldnt find anything.. sorry.

I believe you can on the non-brembo. I had 16's on my Sedan with a higher profile tire of course.

No you cannot run 16s on an 06 Coupe. You can run them on the 03,04 models, and the 05X sedan with the smaller brakes. The rims will interfere with the calipers on the others.
As far as speedometers being out, you can keep it accurate by using a tire with the same diameter and rolling circumference (higher profile) as your original.

Reason Im asking is because I didnt want to buy 17" aluminums. I would rather the black ugly stealies, but they only go up to 16". Anyone have any good suggestions, or am I gonna have to bite the bullet?

Sorry, but JMO....
I never understood why anyone would put steelies on a nice car....... (not just Infiniti)
There are some great bargans in aloy wheels if you look around.
& if it's a tight budget situation, lots of used wheels pop up FS. (just PM Roy )

i have 17" steelies, so you can get 'em. as for putting them on a "nice" car like ours, the main reason i went with 'em is that they're much easier to deal with in the snow, alloys tend to pack up with snow and thus go way out of balance, so you have to spend another few minutes in the cold scraping out your wheels.

besides, i think the G actually looks pretty darn good w/ 'em.

Ew. Yucky. Steelies FTL.

It's all personal preference. Whichever way you decide to go, look on ebay and the marketplace for deals. You should bea ble to find any 17 - 18 inch winter tire / steely / aluminum rim combo for well under a grand.

Peronally I'm with that intgr8r guy.

Finally somebody said it

There's absolutely no way I'd put those nasty black "steelies" on my G35 coupe. It's like wearing flip flops with a tuxedo, it just looks awkward. My car came with the OEM 18s, so I'm going to have those as my dedicated winters and purchase a decent set of 19s for the summer months.

Pssshh. The price of looking good is high enough as it is w/o having to drop more coin for bad looking alloys, or a lot more coin for some decent looking ones, for a car... in the winter... when it'll look like crap with all the salt and slush on it anyway... and nobody will bother to look because it's too damn cold to lift your head away from your scarf.

But to each their own.

Then there's the smug satisfaction of form > function that you get from wearing steelies. Oh yeah baby... smug satisfaction. You can't buy that kind of satisfaction.

Sure you can, Canadian Tire. I couldn't bring myself to do steelies, got a second set of sport 17s for about the same price soon after I bought the car.

Bless me Father, for I have sinned. I have steelies in my winter tires.

I really can't get excited about it - the car looks like **** all winter anyway.

My last two cars had regular rim leaks from corrosion of the alloy wheels at the bead. My ugly steels don't have that problem.

I have seen so many G coupes lately with aftermarket winter alloys that look like complete crap, because the offsets are so high, that the wheels are stuck deep within the wheel wells.

Here is my winter setup, and what I think a winter setup should look like (the wheels are actually more flush with the body, than my OEM 19s):

Looking at the winters, I now feel like driving the car this winter instead of storing it.
